Publisher's Summary

Josie Buhrman has spent the last 10 years trying to escape her family's reputation and with good reason: her father was murdered, her mother ran away to join a cult and her twin sister, Lanie, once Josie's closest friend and confidante, betrayed her. Now Josie has settled in New York with her boyfriend, Caleb, and that's where she intends to stay.

The only problem is that she has lied to Caleb about every detail of her past - starting with her last name.

Then investigative reporter Poppy Parnell sets off a media firestorm with a hit podcast that reopens the case of her father's murder, and Josie's carefully constructed world begins to unravel. She is forced to return to her hometown, where she must confront the lies from her past - as well as those on which she has staked her future.

Read the book instead

Unfortunately, not all books translate well to audio book. This is one of them. The story itself is a good one and I don’t want to speak badly of the author but there are lengthy passages of this story that take place in a Reddit forum and listening to “hashtag this, hashtag that, at-user” over and over again gets annoying, fast. Worse still is that one of the characters with PLENTY of dialogue is meant to be a New Zealander and the narrators attempts at the accent are atrocious. It completely takes you out of the story any time he speaks because it’s that bad. If the narrator can’t do the accent, they should have someone co-narrate that character or forget the accent all together. Really ruined this one for me. Read the book instead!
