Publisher's summary

This book is geared to the average citizen with little or no economics background who would like the tools to think critically about economic issues. Many of today's economic issues are obscured by their inherent complexity and the often confusing and conflicting views coming from political talking heads. Sowell, a leading conservative economist and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, seeks to alleviate this confusion. He begins by elucidating the differences between politicians, who are often compelled by political considerations to act for the short term, and economists, who are more concerned with long-term ramifications. Sowell then focuses on the application of economics to major contemporary real-world problems - housing, medical care, discrimination, and the economic development of nations.

Clear and well argued

In characteristic Thomas Sowell fashion, this book is clear, engaging, and well argued, with every assertion backed up by facts or examples.

Excellent Economics & Political Analysis

Eye-opening read which is truly fascinating. Learn why politicians say what they do in a nonpartisan format. We need to think beyond stage 1 as voters and citizens! Lots of history covered throughout the world which sites many specific economic examples, impacts, and policies. A must read! The analysis is still relevant today. Should be required reading for every high school economics or social studies classes.

Grear book on economics!

It's amazing to have so much information in this book. It helps us understand why so many people are involved in unnecessary thoughts which are just part of stage 1, but they don't think beyond this stage. I have see this happening around the world, even in my country.
