Story
When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

Publisher's Summary
"For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."
When a political party helps organize and finance nationwide protests, anarchists and mob mentality takes over and violent riots start breaking out in many of our major cities.
At the same time, part of the west coast is trying to recover from a series of devastating earthquakes, severe drought, and widespread wildfires.
These events cause a record drop in our modern-day stock market, and due to a national debt of over $28 trillion, the value of the dollar is on the edge of collapsing causing massive layoffs to start taking place across the country.
Our enemies see our weakness and know it's time to try and take their place as world leaders, but they know they must try to find a way to neutralize our military strength.
Vince and Kim Johnson live on a farm 40 miles to the southeast of Kansas City, Missouri.
After serving 17 years in the Army, due to an injury, Vince had to take early medical retirement. Now, the most he thinks he must fight is his ongoing pain. Little does he know that a chain of events is about to take place that will test all his training and leadership skills.
They are reunited with family, inexperienced friends, plus four of the men Vince served with while in the Army, to prepare and try to survive what might be the start of the actual apocalypse. (Written in 2016)
Advisories:
This is an apocalyptic/end times novel that the far left will do and say whatever they can to stop you from listening to....
Our story isn't for everyone as it's intentionally written to be a bit provocative, it contains some graphic language and violence, and it's based on how the world and human nature really is; not how some like to pretend it is.

Outstanding story
This book is tremendous. The apocalyptic events are very realistic and the storylines go along with so much that is happening today. At first, I thought the background information and introduction to several of the main characters in the first chapter was a little too detailed and long, but I am so glad the authors did it that way. It gives you so much more understanding of the characters and their relationships. As more of the main characters come into the story later on in the book, it's very easy to find a connection with each one of them. I know a couple just like the characters, Vince and Kim, and they have the type of relationship that is very easy to envy. The authors and the narrator are terrific storytellers, especially for it being the author's first novel. It's the kind of story that you just don't want to quit listening to. Even though it's a longer book, it didn't seem like it and I finished it within a few days. This is the type of story that you'll catch yourself laughing, tearing up, worrying, and sometimes wanting to yell. Please keep up the good work and thank you for your service, by the way. Now, on to book two.

Never stop learning
This is an excellent book! I have read/listened To many books of this genre and this is one of the best. What one of the many reasons I stop a book is terminology I.e. 7.62 M16 or M2 SAW Etc. There are no such error found here. The tactics are reasonable. The group of Army buddies bring back good memories. The plot is realistic in fact, perhaps too much so for this 74 year old Army Special Forces retired soldier.

This is one of the best I've listened to!
This story is not for the naive, the shallow-minded, or the hypocritical "holier than thou" crowd that feels they have the right to judge everyone else that doesn't think and believe exactly as they do. This story is about the real world and is ripped from the headlines and turned into an amazing story. I can't wait for books 2 and 3. Looking at the reviews from Amazon, I feel sorry for those that are so shallow-minded, they quit reading it after the first couple of chapters. The truth might hurt your feelings but it is the truth! Some complained because it was "too real". Really? That's what made it so good. God forbid a story talks about how things really are, instead of the watered-down "G-rated" fantasies of so many authors today where they always try to make the main characters sound so "perfect and righteous." This story is about real life, real people, and how it could actually be. If you can't handle it in an apocalyptic story, how are you ever going to survive if you have to face part of it for real? It's very sad that people don't understand the words, "Graphic language and violence." They read the advisory, but then they complain about it, just like they do the TV series, Yellowstone. You need to grow up or go back to watching episodes of Lassie and Gilligan's Island. That's internet trolls for you though. I'm sure those complaining have never served or never would serve in the military or as a public servant like a police officer. This is how it really is on the streets and in the military. Welcome to the real world.

Great Listen With a Down to Earth Storyline
This has been a really good listen. The character development is good and the people come across as very real. The only reason that I didn't give it 5-stars in all categories was: 1) The Carmen angle....just didn't care for it. 2) The narrator seemed to have a bit of a problem with the children's voices. They just come across as too young. Other than these two minor issues the story is outstanding. It is absolutely one of my two favorite series'.
