The love written into the world and characters.

I went in kind of expecting a revenge fantasy full of machismo. There is some of that but the world and story are so very much more!

So good.

This was a really interesting book. I loved the plot. I loved Mike, he was such a good character. I loved the narrator.

Great introduction to the series

Great story and great performance by the narrator.

This is book 1 in what looks like a series, as there is another book featuring the same MC out right now, and it's a great intro to the character and his motivations. A large part of the narrative is Mike's backstory, including his time as a young boxer and his relationship with a girl. In the present time, we follow Mike and Steve, a detective with a drug problem. The two stories eventually collide, but I won't give too much away.

There isn't as much violence and gore as I thought there would be. The story focuses on characters and their relationships and what drives each one. The storytelling is insightful, and the details draw you in.

POV is 3rd person omniscient. Timeline hops around a bit, especially in the first half. Both of these things are done well. Excellent listen, and I'm looking forward to book 2.

Great story, definitely worth listening!

As a woman, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book at first, since the main character was an ironworker and I didn't know anything about it, but I'm glad I listened to the story. I very much enjoyed knowing more about Mike's upbringing, about the fights, and about the justice he creates in this world. I got attached to the characters way more than I was expecting. I laughed and got emotional at times, and believe me, this is a story worth listening to.
