Publisher's summary

Your child shouts, "You can't make me" or "I hate you" or "I don't want to". Behind the angry words, what is the child really saying? David and Claudia Arp, based on a survey conducted in the United States and Europe, have identified the eight most common "cries" of the spirited, or strong-willed child. In this audiobook you will find helpful, sympathetic insights to guide you in raising a spiritually and emotionally healthy child. For each of these "eight cries" you will find workable answers and practical help in how to turn unpleasant, day-to-day hassles into win-win experiences through well-thought-out strategies for your not-so-compliant child. Help is on the way!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is filled with excellent info and suggestions, as well as coping skills. encouraging to know other parents have struggled with their spirited children, too. Offers lots of hope and encouragment.

christian-based advice

just a warning: this book is by a husband and wife pair of authors who are Christians and who quote liberally in their book from the Bible and advise readers to trust in God and pray about their spirited children. If this is likely to offend or bother you, don't get this book! That having been said, the book is basically sound, and has many helpful bits of advice for dealing with a spirited (i.e., difficult) child.

This Book Needs A Disclaimer

The title should correctly read: ANSWERING THE 8 CRIES OF THE SPIRITED CHILD WHO BELONG TO CHRISTIAN PARENTS AND CHRISTIAN PARENTS ONLY. As a Jewish parent, I was thoroughly exhausted by all the Christian references here. Come on, authors, you must know that not ALL your listeners go to Church. And what the heck is Corinthians anyway? Isn't that a type of leather? I just want to know how to be a better parent. If I wanted to be spoon-fed Christianity, I'd join the White House Press Corps. Show a little inclusiveness and not so much entitlement next time, because all that said, you actually have some valuable tools and info to say about spirited children. But the rest is a REAL turnoff for those who don't share your faith. Boo.

Not useful

The book is a very poor copy of the excellent "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka (without even referencing the work of Dr Kurcinka. Especially the religious reference to the role of God (if any) I found offensive. Read Kurcinka's work if you want to be informed -

Be Careful lots of religion not much help

I ended up getting a lot of regurgitated psycho babel from other authors with a lot of scripture thrown in. This was not what I needed nor what I thought I was buying. I will be asking for a refund. The authors decided to read it themselves and would have been better off having professionals do it instead. To say they are painful to listen to is an understatement but had the content at least been worthwhile I would not have complained. They cannot pronounce the words that they wrote and it was a struggle to listen to in this regard alone. After trying for two weeks I have finally made it through the whole thing and to say that I am disappointed is an understatement. If you are looking for generalities but no real answers with a lot of bible thumping then this may be for you. I was looking for real help. Not all the answers just a starting point with some real world working solutions. What I got was preached to and told to keep prayer journals and no real advice. This was a complete waste of time.
