A Great Installment, But Quality Control Slipped

“Another One Bites the Crust” is a delightful addition to the Spellbound Hound Magic and Mystery series. Jeannie Wycherley continues to bring so much charm, heart, and whimsy to this world, and this installment is no exception. I loved returning to these characters and watching the story unfold with its usual mix of humor, magic, and mystery. The plot is engaging and keeps the momentum going, making this book another solid entry in a series I enjoy immensely.

While I genuinely enjoyed the story, my experience with the audiobook was impacted by some noticeable quality control issues. Multiple chapters (6, 11, 15, 18, 21, and 22) ended abruptly—sometimes mid‑sentence or even mid‑word—and it pulled me completely out of the moment. Each time, I had to stop listening and reference my Kindle edition to make sure I wasn’t missing anything important. It was distracting and not the seamless listening experience I’ve come to expect.

That said, David Winter’s narration is still strong overall, and once these technical glitches are addressed, the audiobook will be much smoother for future listeners. The story itself absolutely deserves five stars, and I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

Doughnuts and Death

When someone dies after attending the opening of Clarissa’s friend DeeDee’s new bakery, Clarissa wants to help clear DeeDee from suspicion. Clarissa starts by interviewing the owners of other bakeries in Sun Valley to find out who would set up DeeDee. After the other bakers start to die, Toby, Moriarty and Stan start their own investigation to find the serial killer. This is a great series with fun characters, a lot of humor and a hoid mystery. The narration is also outstanding!

Bakeries & Murder

I was as entertained by this story as I was with the others in the series. Clarissa's friend was opening a new bakery, and Clarissa, Ed, Toby, and Sal were attending the opening activities. One of the attendees of the bakery opening was found dead the next day, and the police ruled the case as murder. Toby engaged his friends to help solve the case. I enjoyed the witty conversation and humorous scenes. My attention was gripped by the complexity of the murder case. I enjoyed David Winter's narration as his performance was entertaining. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
