Publisher's summary

The business of love is dangerous. For Jennifer Kent, a recent MBA graduate who has been searching for work in Manhattan for four long months, time and money are running out. If she doesn't find work soon, she'll need to return to her native Maine, where the job situation is even more bleak. And where her abusive parents lie in wait.

When an unorthodox arrangement is proposed, Jennifer decides to take it. She agrees to be the "girlfriend" of Alexander Wenn, the reluctant, billionaire CEO of Wenn Enterprises, who is so devastatingly good looking, he needs a beautiful woman like Jennifer on his arm to "keep the wolves at bay."

In this case, the wolves are other women, all of whom vie for his attention so aggressively, they keep him from focusing on business at the exclusive events he must attend. It's there that deals are cut. What they want is his money and his power. Damaged by a past event, the only thing Alex wants to do is focus on work. And to forget the past.

But can Jennifer deny their white-hot chemistry? As she's swept into this glittering otherworld of society and big business, she finds herself struggling to keep from falling for Alex, an almost impossible feat she nevertheless must meet.

Armed with her MBA, Jennifer Kent knows about business. But what she doesn't know is what could destroy her - the business of protecting her own heart. And maybe her own life.

So on the fence with this series

This is the review for Vol 1-2....

I like this story... love the h-character... but it is just lacking something. I mean... it has everything a typical romance book like this is supposed to have...but it is just lacking something...

In vol 1, it takes forever the drama and action to get started... I mean it's like chapter 6 before the two main characters even come together... And when they do, it like instant chemistry... no build up... No fighting or nothing... just sparks... then the CEO (our H) hires the h to be his filter girl...(to keep the wolves at bay).

They fight b/c the H tries to embarrass the h, and she is a pretty tough cookie and don't play that.

I like that about our h... her personality shines bright throughout the story...

Ok... so Vol 2, we spend yet again 2/3 of the vol for the H and h to reconnect. I mean seriously... can we get to the hotness already... O...by the way, there is no smexing in vol 1. We don't get to that till the very end of vol 2... WTF! Seriously... Idk... I just.. felt like so much of their problems could have been avoided if they would have just talked to each other, and let go of some of their pride...on both sides...

Anyway... like I said... it was a good story, (it not done yet either), but I just fill like there is something lacking... Idk if I will invest in the other volumes... maybe just wait until all the vols are out, and listen in one setting...

It's worth a sale... but I would save my credits or buy on something a bit more... satisfying...

Reba did a wonderful job narrating this book. This is my first time reading and listening to this author. I just wanted a little sample but I got hooked. Thanks Amazon for referring this series.

This is an OK story

For me this story was OK...the story and characters work just fine. Nothing really new but the production quality is bad. It sounds as though the narrator is in a empty metal building. It was very annoying. I adjusted to the narrator but she is nasal my least favorite sound. She is capable of giving a good performance. The characters were interesting enough for the credit.

where did the record this?

The book wasn't bad, but the performance had some kind of construction noises and a smoke detector with a low battery that definitely weren't part of the story. It pulled me out of the story and distracted me from what was happening.

Funny, sexy, a solid story line and well written.

It's official. I'm addicted and it only took the first few chapters of the first book. This is a really good story! The series follows Jennifer and Alex, two characters who are likeable, lovable, and very easy to understand. Jennifer is quick-witted and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, all the while being a sophisticated woman who knows exactly what she wants. Alex is a humbled man who will surprise you with his sincerity. Suffice it is to say that I couldn’t put the series down until I finished it. Jennifer and her best friend Lisa have recently moved away from Maine (and Jennifer's abusive parents) to start their life in New York. However, Jennifer seems to be unable to find a job, even with her MBA. In a pinch and quickly running out of money, Jennifer applies for a secretarial position at Wenn Enterprises. This is when she meets the outspoken Ms. Blackwell. Who ends up being HILARIOUS! Jennifer's life takes an unexpected turn after she runs into a stranger on her worst day ever. The stranger ends up being the CEO of Wenn (Alex). Neither are prepared for their reaction to one another, and neither understands what their connection will hold in the days and months to come. Things move quickly and before she knows it, Jennifer is caught up in the tailspin that is Alex's life. However, Jennifer and Alex have skeletons in their closet as they pose as the perfect power couple to the outside world. It's just a matter of time though before the closet door is opened exposing the deep dark secrets that could either make or break their newly evolving relationship. Overall, this book oozes sexuality, tension, nutty characters, colorful characters, great dialogue and a delicious romance.

Fantastic!

What did you love best about Annihilate Me (Vol. 1)?

I absolutely loved this book. It wasn't about getting right to the sex scenes, as it is with SO MANY OTHER BOOKS. In fact, the book offers only a powerful build-up to a relationship that will likely emerge even deeper, I'm hoping, in the next book. The adults are adults. There is nothing amateurish or childish here--there are NO hot messes--which I really enjoyed. In THIS genre, that was refreshing.

What did you like best about this story?

The dialogue is witty and real. You'll never forget Ms. Blackwell (LOVE her). Jennifer and Alex are trying to work things out between them, and you can't help but pull for them.

Have you listened to any of Reba Buhr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Reba Buhr is amazing. She gets all the nuances. She must be an actress, though I'm not sure, but she should be one! She certainly acts through this book. Her style and her characterizations are flawless.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sizzling, romantic chick-lit for the smart set. Oh, and for those who love witty dialogue!

Any additional comments?

This book is a debut? Unbelievable. Very, very well written. Even better is that it's a full book--you don't get a just a few short chapters--you get a full novel. Totally engrossing. Can't wait for the next. Christina Ross has a new fan in me.

voices

please don't hire this narrator again...i loved your book..your story...but that narrator fucked it all up by reading it all-out-of-breath....and she has a good voice...but she needs to calm it down a bit..im sorry for my judgement...i don't want to be ugly...maybe she can practice more because she has a cute voice..other than that..I'm really enjoying the story so far..
