Publisher's Summary

Marilla Cuthbert and Matthew Cuthbert, middle-aged siblings who live together at Green Gables, a farm in Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt a boy from an orphan asylum in Nova Scotia as a helper on their farm. Through a series of mishaps, the person who ends up under their roof is a precocious girl of eleven named Anne Shirley. Anne is bright and quick, eager to please but dissatisfied with her name, her pale countenance dotted with freckles, and with her long braids of red hair. Being a child of imagination, however, Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island.

Weird Narration

I love Anne of Green Gables, but this audio version is terrible. I'm currently listening to "Sinead Dixon" narrate Great Expectations and she's so far fantastic, but the "Sinead Dixon" for this title is clearly a different person. This narration is stiff and she speaks with a bit of a staccato, and doesn't seem to know the material very well (voice characterizations aren't good). Also, the audio is sprinkled with the rustle of pages being turned, lips being smacked, and the random studio noise. Really weird and distracting, and overall a very LOW budget production. Every chapter is ended with the listener being told that it has ended and who the author is, and sometime the production company info. Also weird and distracting. Managed to Chp5, but couldn't deal with it overall. This is not a version to get lost in. If you've never read Anne of Green Gables before, don't start with this version!

Great story - less than interesting narrator

Love this series but disappointed in the reading. She doesn’t add anything to the experience.

Terrible terrible performace

Don’t buy this one! The book is amazing but the actresses performance is extraordinarily bad, flat and dull. It’s almost funny! Did no one hear her while they were recording??
