Publisher's summary

The Pacific War in World War II pitted American fighting men against two merciless enemies: the relentless Japanese army and the combined forces of monsoons, swamps, mud, privation, and disease.

The rowdy paratroopers of the eleventh Airborne Division-nicknamed "The Angels"—answered the call and fought in some of World War II's most dramatic campaigns, ranging from bloody skirmishes in Leyte's unforgiving rainforests to the ferocious battles on Luzon, including the hellscape urban combat of Manila.

General Joseph Swing's men were trained as elite shock troops, but high American casualties often forced them into action as ground-pounding infantrymen. Swing kept them supplied by airdropping food, ammunition, medical teams, and reinforcements over nearly impassable terrain, and the Angels fought on, emerging as one of the most lethal units in the Pacific War. Their final task was the occupation of Japan, where they were the first American boots on the ground.

Angels Against the Sun provides an unforgettable soldiers' perspective of America's hard-won victory in the Pacific.

Another home run for Fenelon!

this book rocked! Fenelon dives deep here to give us a less heard of account just like he did with Four Hours of Fury.
Here we learn in great detail and intensity about the 11th Airborne division and its hereos like Joeseph Swing,, Paul Hogan and Slugger Lahte along with the thousands of other braves troopers who served with distinction in the Pacific!
you will land with the 11th on Leyte, Tagaytay Ridge and you will lead to the liberation of Manila. You will fight to liberate a detention camp at Los Bonos Luzon.
The detail of these hard fought battles is described near perfectly by Fenelon. He is a gifted writer whom doesn't disappoint and I hope to see more coming from him in the future!

Fascinating account of Airborne forces in the Pacific

James does another great job at bringing an often overlooked Airborne unit to the limelight. If you liked the famous Band of Brothers book, you will thoroughly enjoy this book about one of the unsung Airborne units. It makes me wonder what unit is up next?

Great History of a Unique Division

The author captures the trials and tribulations the Soldiers of the 11th ABN DIV experienced during the Phillippines campaign. The author's literary imagery creates fantastic mental imagery and narrative that draws in the reader.

As good as it gets

I have read countless books on the Second World War. Mr Fenelons book ranks with the best. You will enjoy every word. I finish yet again humbled with the sacrifice my father and countless men and women endured to keep us free. Thank you for this book.
