if you read or listen to many books you really desire something that's a little bit different, that's a little bit different off kilter, that's a little more intriguing and the author's books fit that category

Angel Killer

I enjoyed this story very much! It was somewhat predictable in certain parts but it didn't take away from it at all!

So Close

This was a really good story. Not as fabulous as The Naturalist series, imo, but very close. The main things that prevent me from giving it 5 stars are that nearly every chapter involved the heroine being "sick to her stomach" or "feeling like she was going to throw up" over stressful situations AND constantly claiming if anything bad happened or anyone else died it was all her fault when nothing was further from the truth. Why is it female protagonists written by men always seem to have this really overdeveloped sense of responsibility for anything that goes wrong?!
Still, WELL worth reading.

A different kind of FBI thriller

This is a slightly different idea for an FBI thriller. An agent with a background in magic…as in the illusion kind. The story slowed down at times but overall a good one.

Didn't Want to Put it Down

This is a good story I didn't want to put down. The narrator did a great job. I am looking forward to book 2.

A great novel with suspense. Highly recommend to anyone who likes crime fiction with psych skills.

A New Discovery

I recently discovered Andrew Mayne, and I've loved everything I've read so far. The Naturalist series was great, and now I've begun the Jessica Blackwood books. Just when I think all is lost, he engineers a twist that blows my mind.

Wonderful start for the series.

I really enjoyed this new character. Magician turned FBI agent made for a great listen as she tries to outwit a mastermind of deception!

Loved every minute of it!

Fast paced crime drama with an incredible working knowledge of magic make this an enjoyable read.

A DIFFERENT TAKE

I liked the mix of mystery and illusion. I liked the beginning of the book, but the middle to the end lost its focus. The motivation of the prime character was not very clear and it seemed like the main purpose of the book was to lead you to the next book.

The ending left me hanging and unsatisfied.

The narrator was okay but sounded a bit melodramatic.
