Publisher's Summary

An Irish Country Family is a charming entry in Patrick Taylor's beloved internationally best-selling Irish Country series.

Before Doctor Barry Laverty joined Doctor Fingal O’Reilly's practice in the colorful Irish village of Ballybucklebo, he was an intern, working long hours, practicing new medical techniques, falling in love, and learning what is most important in the medical field for a family physician - the bonds of family, friendships, and human kindness.

Years later, Barry practices everything he has learned in Ballybucklebo, a lovely village where neighbor looks after neighbor. And while his own efforts to start a family with his wife Sue have been frustrated, the community around him couldn’t be stronger as they work together to show their solidarity.

Shifting effortlessly between the two time periods, best-selling author Patrick Taylor continues the story of these beloved characters while vividly bringing the daily joys and struggles of this delightful Irish village to life.

Praise for narrator John Keating:

"Keating is masterful in his interpretatios of the extensive cast of Irish characters.... One can easily visualize the verdant green hills and fresh sea air, making a visit with Keating in the driver's seat a jovial trip back in time." (AudioFile magazine on An Irish Country Practice)

"The charm of Taylor's Irish Country tales is brought to life in John Keating's performance. His Irish lilt will transport listeners straight to Ballybucklebo.... Keating's pacing and inflections are perfect as he gives a unique vocal personality to each character." (AudioFile magazine on An Irish Country Love Story)

"John Keating's wonderful sing-song Irish brogue breathes life and seasonal warmth into this cast of reprobates from the little village of Balleybucklebo.... There is enough charm and seasonal warmth in this package to replicate the spirit of the holidays." (Publishers Weekly on An Irish Country Christmas)

Heard it before

I was looking forward to a new book, but this is a jumble of stories from other books, rambling and confusing. Maybe the printed copy would help make sense of the disorder. All the other books are amazingly fun and lively.

Was a fan, but BORING !

I've purchased every one of the books in the series. I enjoy the characters and the development of the storylines. Of course it would be so much less without the fabulous narrator... I was so looking forward to this next edition, but seriously could not get through it without stopping two or three times along the way and listening to something else.... it goes on and on about medical condition details into way too many specifics regarding characters we know nothing about, and basically don't care about anyway. there was no character development in this book. It was repetitive medical descriptions. So disappointing.

Taylor and Keating are Perfect Together

No better pairing in audiobooks than Taylor and Keating. The narrator understands the source material so well that he brings the story to life in 3D color. This book is a perfect continuation of a beloved series. Fans of Dr. O’Reilly will miss the old guy a bit in this installment. He still makes appearances, but as only an accessory. The story focuses on Barry Laverty, and switches between his present and backstory in a wonderful way. You also get to visit favorites faces, as well. There was a lot of neat tie-ups near the end, so I hope Taylor isn’t hinting this series is winding down. That will be a sad day for the literary world. Like other great novel series, (Graham/Poldark come to mind), this particular one doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I get a feeling that’s ok, though. Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly of Ballybucklebo wouldn’t have it any other way. Greatness is made greater when it’s quiet.

Once Again, Wonderful, so it is!

Wonderful to be back in Ballybucklebo (this time in 1969) and also insights into Barry’s medical trainings before he joined Fingal’s practice! That’ll do- have yourself a listen. . .

The finale is weak

Ive read all of this series. This was not well done. Flipping back and forth from past to present was hard to follow...even though I knew all the characters and their backstory. It almost seemed like the author just wanted to wrap up all the loose ends, and wandered aimlessly through checking all the boxes.

Another great story of Fingal and friends!

As always, I cannot wait until the next installment. It always ends too soon! I love the characters, the story line and the shenanigans of the whole crew! Slainte!
