Startlingly Visceral and Daringly Hopeful

A raw narrative told with surprising clarity. I couldn’t stop listening as I pictured DJ’s life unfolding through the ages and ending on a new horizon of hope. Forever astounded by recovery at work in other’s lives.

Amazing

I absolutely loved the testimony that was given, many times I felt the sadness and the joy of DJs triumphs and his testimony is so impactful he will help many more people.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. I heard the interview on Big Herc's YouTube show "Fresh Out". I liked this book and I'm definitely recommending it to everyone I know.

An Amazing Life Indeed

From beginning to end, this story sweeps through four decades lived by a man still under 40 by the end of the book. DJ Verrett is not a typical person and his story is special, inspiring, candid, and speaks of the strength, resilience, and indomitable will to survive and succeed. An unforgettable read about an unforgettable man.

Deep and realistic…

No theatrics. Mindful. Heartfelt. I couldn’t get enough of this book. The way that Mr. Verrett spills his soul is very revealing. I was glad that he didn’t just focus on the torments of prison, but reflected on his thought processes throughout his sentence. No spoilers, so my review ends by encouraging readers to have an open mind when reading/listening. You’ll learn a lot throughout the reading and may realize that people deserve second chances.

Powerful Book to sum it up.

This is a man who always wanted better than his current circumstances. His motivation for getting in the street life was to better his circumstances and his motivation to leave the streets was to better his circumstances.
Every excuse he could have used he could have but his desire to be the star since his days in little baseball propelled him to excellence.

This is a book every young male from honor roll kid to the are young man on the block should be exposed to.

Gripping from beginning to end.

From him selling golf balls, baseball, introduced to the dope game, depression, acceptance and adapting… it’s hard to stop listening… so good, they could easily make a great movie out of this.
