Publisher's Summary

In this powerful book, the renowned exorcist of Rome tells of his many experiences in his ministry as an exorcist doing battle with Satan to relieve the great suffering of people in the grip of evil. The importance of the ministry to "expel demons" is clearly seen in the Gospels, from the actions of the Apostles, and from Church history. Fr. Amorth allows the listener to witness the activities of the exorcist, to experience what an exorcist sees and does. He also reveals how little modern science, psychology, and medicine can do to help those under Satan's influence, and that only the power of Christ can release them from this kind of mental, spiritual or physical suffering.

An Exorcist Tells His Story has been a European best seller that has gone through numerous printings and editions. No other book today so thoroughly and concisely discusses the topic of exorcism.

Spooky unsubstantiated ghost stories

By no means should you take this book seriously, but perhaps it could be used to inform you why so many Christians are frightened of hell and the supernatural.

This book is a large personal testimony about the realism of demons that reads like spooky ghost stories. It takes itself far too seriously and will probably scare many people who are a bit too impressionable.

I’ll admit that crazy and unexplained things happen, but this book forcefully iterates it’s Christian magic as fact while committing fallacies left and right. Even if the testimony is accurate, it doesn’t confirm any doctrine of exorcism that this book claims it does. I’m sure the “sorcerers” and “witches” that this book slanders so hard would say the same things with the same efficacy about Christian exorcism

Not only does the book smack heavily of confirmation bias and superstition, but it’s basically one large “no true Scotsman” or “no true sorcerer” fallacy.

An interesting read/listen but by no means should this be taken seriously as evidence for anything other than a vast knowledge gap in mental health and the workings of human psychology and the yet unexplained coincidences and happenings of the universe.

Highly recommend, and believe it.

Fr. Amorth speaks of his encounters excorsizing thousands of people during his ministry. He explains things very clearly about Heaven, hell, Purgatory, angels and fallen angels; what the motivations of fallen angels are on this earth and how we fall prey to them.
I highly encourage everyone to listen. If you are not a believer, then you will think this is a nice story. If you believe, you will get much out of this. It may help you to understand some of the unusual happenings in your life, and why most parishes do not have a diocesan excorist any more.

Fascinating insights.

Stumbled across this one. I've not read / listened to a Catholic book before but have to say that it's really good. The narrator is excellent which always helps. Gabriele Amorth was clearly a very intelligent man as well as obviously having a very strong faith. The book is not creepy or scary despite the subject matter. It deals with the difference between psychological problems and what Fr. Amorth considered to be of demonic origin. It has plenty of case studys from his many years as an exorcist and is interesting throughout. I'd recommend it to anyone who has been a Christian for a while of any denomination.
