Pleasantly surprised

Much better than anticipated. A very timely story given what’s going on in the US. So much history has been removed from our public education as it becomes indoctrination. Grim reminders are given appropriate space here of what happens when voters buy into the utopian dream of greater government that leads to the demise of individual freedoms and opportunities. Very pleased with Mr. Stansfield’s writing and lessons he shares!

A great adventure/espionage story

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the author did a great job of putting together a fun action/adventure/espionage story. The pacing was excellent and the narration was solid. All in all, a really entertaining book.

Good Story

I enjoyed listening to this thriller with all of its twists. I'm not that knowledgeable of the workings of MI-6, but this book pulled me in. I found some of the machinations to be surprising. The imagery in the story was great, and I could envision so much. I loved the ending on this book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. Both the author and narrator were new to me, and I would listen to more of their work.

A real Thriller

A thriller about a new world order, a great read full of depth and action.
Could it happen? or maybe the pertinent question Is , is it happening?
The storyline is engaging and I hope there will be a follow up book! There is so much more to tell.
Narration by Paul Jenkins is excellent, clear and easily listened too.

An Eiger Sanction feel

This is not my style of book. I really enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, RPGlit. horror, etc. I generally leave the James Bond/Jack Reacher/Jason Bourne stuff for the movies. Don't get me wrong, I like those movies, one of my favorites is the Eiger Sanction with Clint Eastwood. This book reminded me of that film, an aging assassin who gets drawn back into the game for one final mission. I could see a Paul Bradley making it to the movies, and would see a film featuring the character if it were made.

Here we have a grizzled vet going up against a new deadly and unknown organization called the New Templars. Stansfield plays out this story deftly. The action, the tension, the pacing all mesh together for a great ride. Bradley, himself, is interesting and fun to listen to a she goes about dismantling the Templars.

Jenkins plays his role as narrator well and I think he is a good fit for Stansfield. His voice carries the necessary "manly" tone when he's doing Bradley, and modulates its timbor when playing other characters. Good man. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

An Assassin for the New Templars

I really enjoyed the plot line and the double cross of the agent (there were actually several of those). It annoyed me at how ruthless the Templar's were its our way or die and it was basically this was from the beginning. No this is what we stand for join us kind of group. Its join us or we kill you or frame you for someone else's murder. The touch at the end really brought how deep this group was. And in typical MI6 fashion you never know who you can trust. Fun, fast-paced spy/espionage thriller...

An Assassin for the New Templars by D.C. Stansfield was an enjoyable listen. Paul Bradley is a newly retired MI6 agent with a set of special skills. He's approached to work for a secret group called the New Templars. The New Templars aren't what they seem, and Paul works with MI6 to take them down, though things do get a bit sticky here any there, as Paul and his loved ones are put in danger by this whole thing. The story was fast paced and well-written and I listen to it over one afternoon.

Paul Jenkins did a very good job narrating this book. His voice fit Paul perfectly and helped me envision the story easily. He voiced the other supporting characters well too, and had unique voices for them. He does read this with a British accent, so if you don't do well with accents, I'd recommend listening to the audio sample to ensure that you'll enjoy the narration, as that often can make or break an audiobook. A thrilling listen from start to finish!

This book is fantastic, starts out very strong with a wonderfully paced story that builds and builds throughout until a wonderfully satisfying ending.

The main character is well crafted and develops throughout the book. There are some wonderful twists that catch you completely out and the multiple clever references both cultural and sociopolitical are subtle and on point.

The background and supporting characters are well balanced between developing of them and distracting from the main story.

The narration is perfectly suited to this character and provides a great range throughout the characters. The accent and tone were so real and the inflection and emotion conveyed matches the book very well and gives you a thoroughly immersive world.

In summation this is a great thriller/mystery that gives a fresh feel to the MI6 spy genre and is cleverly presented. Well worth a read/listen. Fingers crossed there is a follow up.

Thriller read by talented narrator

A retired MI6 (British Intelligence) spy is forced to retire after 25 years of service. He returns to his family estate and is soon approached by a secret organization that's determined to bring a new world order to assassinate political leaders. Or is he? Nothing is what it seems at first glance in this story. We learn through flashbacks that Paul, a former agent, is carefully walking a line between two organizations with two very different missions.

I love political thrillers. This is the first story by D.C. Stansfield that I've listened to and I'm impressed with the tight story, character development, and plot twists.

The narrator does an excellent job portraying different characters and voices. It's easy to picture the cast of characters: a hardened assassin, the British PM, spies, and criminal goons. I found Mr. Jenkins' Southern United States accent a bit distracting because it kept slipping back to UK inflection. (To be fair, I live in the South and hear this accent every day.)
