Publisher's summary

Widow Rosalinde Wilde is on her way to her beloved sister's wedding when an unexpected storm waylays her at an overcrowded inn. There she meets a tempting stranger who sweeps her into a night of unforgettable passion.

Grayson Danford never expected a night with the irresistible Mrs. Wilde, but she was a welcome distraction from the unpleasant duty of breaking up his brother's impending nuptials.

He's shocked when he discovers his passionate lover is none other than the sister of his brother's intended.

Now Rosalinde and Gray will butt heads, even as their simmering desire for each other threatens to boil over. Who will win? And who might lose it all?

I do not agree with Karen (last reviewer)

Had I read her review I would have perhaps not purchased this book. However, after reading it I purchased the next in line. Yes they do repeat her bad marriage etc, but I would be the first to have zero patience for repetition and this story only mentioned that when it was needed. The reviewer goes on to talk about Mary Balogh. Now that is a writer who can eliminate about 1/2 her stories loaded with mind babble and repetitions,to end up with a good book.
I liked this book. So much so that I finished it all in a day. It was real and the reader can feel the despair the sisters felt. I am not crazy about the picture on the cover (silly look on his face and she is not the dropped jaw gorgeous heroine described in the book). Fabulous narrator!

slutty widow+horny jerk=sexy mess

What disappointed you about An Affair in Winter?

There was no real story. It was a lot of navel gazing and repeating of the same thing. I am half way through and it is the 8th time someone has explained the widows bad marriage. How many times do they have to explain that the marriage was bad to have the reader understand the marriage was bad. I can just keep repeating the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad. That takes care of the first half of the novel's plot.
I use to really like this author, but she has gone downhill in her writing. She doesn't even bother to do any character development after she has the h/h have sex. Then it's just a series of sexual encounters that take the place of character development.

What could Jess Michaels have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It would be nice if the h/h aren't the most beautiful people on earth and that their attraction is the only thing they have in common. This book is even faster than most modern relationships. The h/h have sex after having dinner in the second chapter and they expect it to be a one night stand. This could just as easily be a contemporary novel.
I am not sure why she places them in regency times. This is a modern story and it is outside of the era.

Which character – as performed by Danielle O'Farrell – was your favorite?

I have increased the speed to move the book along, so am not getting the best from her voices. It's the bad story that is driving the speed, as I am trying to get to any part of this novel that might be interesting.

What character would you cut from An Affair in Winter?

Nothing can help this novel. I just don't understand the point of the story. Everyone seems to have an issue with all the other people in the novels, so you just get a lot of negativity.

Any additional comments?

I think I bought this book to act as a time filler until the next mary balogh /lisa kleypas novel.
I wish some better author's back catalogue would be on audible.com. Or some books like Amanda Quick can be re-recorded with better narrators, so that the books can be enjoyed.

It was in winter? Oh, yah, it was.

Either way it was very enjoyable. A tad slow.... a simple plot.... but enjoyable.

It was well performed with the single exception of "dowager" being "dowanger " with that irritant set aside it was good narration.

It was hot and steamy too!

Pretty good

Not revolutionary in terms of romance novels, but there were a few unique things that set this apart. I liked that the author embraced the fact that this is a romance novel and created enough fantasy so that the reader has a fun read while having enough reality and historic accuracy that this isn't completely unrealistic. I also liked that she chose a widow instead of a young inexperienced virgin. I feel like there are too many romances about the virginal heroine protecting her virginity.

Good story line

I liked this book one in the series. Danielle o'Farrell does a good job with the female voice, but has a terrible male voice. The men sound flat, lacking any emotion.

Too many long moments

Narrator is excellent! Author over uses phrases like “for a long moment” or “what seemed like an eternity” but other than that, it’s a decent story.

The Best!!!

Wow, just wow.. I loved this story and the narrator Danielle O'Farrell was marvelous! A chance meeting at an Inn and one night of passion leads to a journey of trust and true love.

Nasal voice

The performer was a great narrator and really good with the female voices, but the male voices were all so nasal that every male sounded like a bad guy and could never actually sound like the emotion the male was trying to portray. Which was unfortunate because I actually enjoyed the story, which wasn’t too heavy during a stressful time of year...where you just need a little escape to de stress.

Enjoyable with a sweet HEA.

A good, sexy story. Narrator OK but her men's voices sound very nasal. Otherwise good
