Publisher's Summary

Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the cold cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about.

She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.

Ten years back, Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away, and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rd's own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.

Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences....

First Blake Banner book, definitely not the last!!

I found myself rooting John Stone from the very first chapter of the book until the end. I think Carmen Dehan adds a lot to the story and they make a great pair. I can’t wait for book 2. Steve Carlson does a great job narrating the story, he’s very easy to listen to and does a great job with all the characters in the story.

New Cop SeriesExcellenit

Has all the ingredients of super cop/detective action series. Main srore line is old unsolved cold cases. Thie one starts out quickly with a mob stylle shooting of five gang members. Some interplay with FIB agents, mob hit men and dirty cops. Action moves fast with somebeatingsand stray bullets and goes into chases over a few cities and international borders. Godd suspense along with good believable dialogue . Reader is excellent with the right excitement level tomatch the action.

My New Favorite Author

While recovering from eye surgery, I discovered Blake Banner. The Dead Cold Mysteries are excellent, and I'm starting on the third one. Fine writing, complex characters I cared about, rich, tight, well-honed prose with just the right amount of detail and atmosphere. Realistic plots that kept me guessing. Clever without trickery. These novels are only missing one thing: I wish they were 35 hours long!

Entertaining

First time purchasing this author, I think I saw it advertised on Facebook.
The story moves along nicely guiding you gently to the eventual denouement. It's an untaxing book perfect for those days when you have to have half your attention somewhere else.
My main problem with the audio was the narrator. In the first few minutes the MC states he is 48, the narrator sounds much older than this and much too old for the hinted at possible romance between the MC and his partner. He also can't do female voices, when the female partner was in conversation with a group of men it was easy to lose track of who exactly was speaking.
I might buy the next in the series but I'd be loath to by any book with this narrator.

An Ace and a Pair by Blake Banner.

What a great story An Ace and a Pair, book 1 of a series by Blake Banner. I really enjoyed it as it has a begging, middle and end and was very exciting all the way through.
So good I can’t wait to read or listen to the rest of the series.

A lot of fun

I really enjoyable, fun detective story. It reminded me a lot of the JP Beaumont series by JA Jance (though not quite as good), Look forward to the next instalment and the continued development of the two main characters and their partnership.
