Publisher's summary

With rich detail, compelling honesty, and a storyteller’s gift, RFK Jr. describes growing up Kennedy in a tumultuous time in history that eerily echoes the issues of nuclear confrontation, religion, race, and inequality that we confront today.

This powerful book combines the best aspects of memoir and political history. The third child of Attorney General Robert Kennedy and nephew of JFK takes us on a journey through his life, including watershed moments in the history of our nation.

These words come vividly to life with intimate stories of RFK Jr.’s own experiences, not just with historical events and the movers who shaped them, but also with his mother and father, his own struggles with addiction, and the ways he eventually made peace with both his Kennedy legacy and his own demons. The result is a book that is remarkably stirring and relevant, providing both insight and hope for all Americans at a time when they are needed like never before.

insightful, historical, and quite enjoyable

The storytelling stands strong in the writing and the delivery creates a perfect semblance that represents the spirit of RFK Jr's work quite effectively. The book is more sociopolitical and historical than I thought it would be and sheds lights on some of the more important issues around the role of the US in the world and raises necessary questions. The role of the Kennedy family and their role in shaping, or to some degree, building bridges and moving America towards the ideals it was founded on is chronicled from the very beginning. However, the best parts of the book are around historical and political events where much needed context is provided to paint a more transparent picture. Highly recommended read!

Fascinating Book

This book is invaluable and fascinating for anyone who grew up with JFK and RFK. It’s so interesting to hear from a family member with an inside view rather than hearing outside rumors and opinions. It’s clearly RFK Jr’s perspective and he is an extremely intelligent man who cares, and is carrying forward the Kennedy torches.

Fascinating From Start To Finish

Mr.Kennedy shares incredible insight into America’s one and only royal family. I learned not only interesting history, but also tools at how to process things in my every day, things that now through this book have a new light shed on them. An absolute must read. We should only be so blessed as to have Mr. Kennedy become our next president.

American Values

Excellent book, superb narration, a real history lesson for those who did not live through the turbulent 60’s! What memories it invokes / his is a front row seat to some of the most seismic events of our country! A personal journey of immense importance / many life lessons within

Solid listen, VERY long.

It’s a good book, but it is quite lengthy. It felt like RFK Jr wanted to add EVERYTHING about his life. Probably could have been 2-3 hours shorter.

American Values

I loved this book! I enjoyed everything about it and learned a lit about both Kennedy boys:Jack and Bobby. And I was young when Jack was assassinated but I knew it was a very sad thing to happen, then Martin Luther King, then Bobby. The history in this book was so much better than history from school. Thank you very much for writing this book!

If you are a Kennedy fan this is a MUST!

I have to confess I am only halfway through this book but I ADORE IT! It is wonderful to hear from a family member. This narrator is new to me but I have heard Bobby Jr. speak in interviews when he was younger. Stephen Graybill almost makes me think the author is speaking. Should this be the only book you read about the Kennedy's no. If like me you are a huge fan. This is worth a credit. Thanks Bobby for the glimpse inside!
