Publisher's summary

This is a powerful true story of one young girl's struggle to survive the state-care-system in the 70s and 80s. Amelia has just one wish, to make it through to adulthood and hold her destiny in her own hands. This is a harrowing true story, one of survival and human strength. Amelia has been tragically separated from all her siblings, never to see them again for many years.

She is moved from one children's home to another until finally, it's just too much for her to bear. Amelia starts to wonder about the peace and finality of her own death.

Rough story

A truly sad book. when you think Amelia's life is going to get somewhat normal, think again. well told about a disfuncial Mother, Amelia and her brothers. I will listen to the next book in the series.

Great Overall

The story, itself is very good. My only complaint was the cadence of the narrator. It sounded at times that it was an automated voice which was grating. But the story was heard so true that it outweighed the odd cadence. I will continue on the test of the book series.

So sad story

I could never figure how some parents can be so horrible! Amelia was so strong in her horrible life. No trust for anyone, no family, no friends. Anyone she got something would happen. I knew things like this happen.
Book was very well written the narrating was great. It makes a person think how some people just don't deserve children.
