Fanfuckingtastic!!!

I can't stress enough how much I loved this story. this isn't your campy Roland Emmerich alien invasion story, it's smart SciFi, Dean Cole is on fire with this series. R.C. Bray is a genius narrator. he can get inside these characters heads, becoming them, making them all believable, putting the listener in the story. I can't wait for the next audiobook to be released!

As per usual for a great story read by R. C. Bray.

Just great. A new, yet refreshing and simplistic plot. Based on the "Aliens Attack" theme, but not as simple as one might think. There are pre-stories that lend sci-fi credibility. There are post-apocalyptic undertones which do not become overbearing. Good writing. Amazing narration. Fun, interesting more than with a read (listen).

This was a fantastic, exhilarating story! I can't wait for RC Bray's recordings of the additional books to come out!

it would be best to listen to First Contact prior to this one for additional background, but it's not required.

Unnecessary and Stupid romance ruined book

Mr. Cole seems to be the kind of author who doesn't have much experience writing about romance. It started with a bang and I thought WOW this is going to be a good one. I couldn't have been more wrong. The romantic relationship in this book ruined it for me. It was poorly written and did not advance the plot in anyway. It was complete sappy crap. "Jake looked into her beautiful crystal blue eyes and fell another day in love with her". Really? Why just another day? Why not another 2 or 3 days? Hell, why not another week or another month? Of course, the female protagonist was the typical beautiful blue eyed bombshell blonde. No brunettes for this author. I couldn't finish the book. I just could not do it. I'd pass over this book for something better written.

the pacing is all wrong

sadly, you have to wait about 2h before things get interesting. by "interesting", i refer to 1. the alien villains making an appearance, and 2. the alien villains being the only interesting characters in the book. sure, there's action in the first two hours, sort of an "x-files lite" episode including a shadowy car chase, but seriously...

it's good for authors to experiment with different parts of a genre in order to develop a compelling storyline, character arcs, and so on; however, successful books have to actually deliver on those elements. this book did not.

it is a hard slog to finish this work...

Meh

Mildly interesting story, However, I am having a hard time with the dialogue, it's pedestrian and predictable. I can't even finish this one. there are better books like Expeditionary Force, The Synchronicity War, Fear the Sky

brilliant

very enjoyable edge of the seat. mr Cole set a bench mark with previous books he smashes it again but gets even better. As for the narration, its Mr Bray so there no one better. ( but dont tell him that)

Fantastically Written and Narrated

A suburb work of Fiction with a great believable storyline that just keeps on giving. It has it all, fear, wonder, death and glory all brought to life by R C Bray

Sorry, but it's nothing new.

I was excited to listen to this book based on the reviews left by other Audible members, but I have to say, I don't agree with them. There's nothing new here at all and certainly nothing that makes me want to pick up the next instalment. The performance by the exceptionally talented R. C. Bray, was brilliant, but surely he knew that most of what he was reading had already been written. Check out Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force saga - also read by Mr Bray. Earth invasions, worm holes, alien tech, lizards, fully formed and believable characters.... and something this lacks - humour. Do yourself a favour and check it out, then compare for yourself.

I'm also left confused by the way Cole refers to his characters in so many different ways - first name, last name, rank... It's distracting - stop it please.

Rushed

I found the story good. We weren't starting on the back foot. Earth was ready ish. The story could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Excellent start to a promising series

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
The writing style has massively improved since Solitude.
This book actually got on with the story, so don't be put off if you didn't get on with Solitude.
Good characters and story and pacing was bang on.
Going to read the prequel now and am looking forward to the next one in the series...

crazy good!

I'm a huge Bray fan. It's how I discovered Dean Cole, among others. This is an exceptional alien invasion story. Its not quite as terrifying as the events in the Amplitude series, because it's more of an overt WE COME TO KILL YOU scenario , but still awfully scary. The narration was as expected , and awesome. Looking forward to the rest.

Exciting and frustrating in almost equal measure.

A great story read brilliantly by Mr Bray. My only issue was with the ineptitude of a number of characters. (Mild Spoiler Alert) The strong female character, a fighter pilot, makes a number of bizarre decisions for a person of her inner strength and intelligence. I just wasn't convinced she would have acted that way, time and again she got herself in trouble by just screwing up when her training and up bringing should have pushed her in another direction. Similarly a key male pilot acted in a similar fashion.

The story is great though, moves at a pace and feels like its been written as a script. Multiple story lines and the action flits from one to another. A bit predictable in places but overall a very good book.

Sadly average

Some good ideas here but it all falls sorta flat. The author jumps between characters constantly re-telling the same events over and over, which can be painful as it only affects the story by dragging it out.

Gripping unique story

while I love the story I dingy like the constant changing of points of view and especially to boring ones. still the story was exciting enough to keep me in the series, I do already great power creep from the humans threatening to break my suspension of disbelief

I loved this. Could not stop listening.

I spent many a time sitting in the car after arriving at my destination, as I just had to hear a little more.
This is now one of my favourite first contact / invasion stories. What a fun action packed ride. I can't wait to get into the next book.
