Publisher's summary

Twelve-year-old Amberly doesn’t quite fit in with all the other fairies in Whimsical Land. One of her wings is undersized and paralyzed, and instead of flying she has to run and leap through the air with the help of a stick. It’s awkward, it’s no fun, and she sometimes gets bullied for it, too. Worse than that, her mother worries about her disability and won’t let her take sword-fighting lessons with her sorcerer uncle.

But Amberly’s been reading a fascinating book, Secret of the Fairy Warriors, and it’s given her a clue to where her father disappeared when she was a young fairy. If she doesn’t learn how to be a fairy warrior, she’ll never get the chance to rescue him. Dark forces are at work, though, and Amberly and her fairy-butterfly watcher Safflower fall through a magical portal to where everything’s in dark and scary contrast to the brilliance and light of Whimsical Land. Someone she meets and what she does there will change her life forever.

This middle-grade fantasy bursts with imagination, and tucked into all the fun and adventure are unforgettable lessons on self-acceptance, personal empowerment, and overcoming adversity.

Magical Story

This story is a delightful tale of a young 12-year-old fairy named Amberly. Amberly is not your ordinary fairy. Although she cannot fly and must use a stick to help her balance, run, and leap she has an overabundance of determination. In her hopes of finding her father, Amberly must be creative, resourceful, and smart. She is all that and more!

The author, Gina Vallance weaves a magical story full of hope, dreams, and resilience. Vivid imagery, rich details, and connecting with the listeners are a must and Gina Vallance has done this distinctly. Each character has some characteristics relevant to the story that we all know well – an overprotective mother, a new friendship, fear, jealousy, greed, and more. The story is a beacon to those who do not see themselves as equal to others or who have to work harder to fit in. Well done!

The narrator, Karah Couch, provides a clear voice for Amberly. She has the energy and enthusiasm for each of the characters. She gave a good performance.

This is a rare book that young people and old people should experience, there are lessons to be learned by all.

Amberly comes to life in this audible version.

The narration of this book really brings to life Amberly and the cast of characters. I've enjoyed the paperback version immensely but now I get to experience Amberly in vivid colors. I absolutely love the vivid imagery depicted in this story with the backdrop of important lessons for children to learn. Amberly possesses the skills and abilities of resilience and tenacity to make her dreams a reality while facing seemingly debilitating obstacles and disabilities. This book will be a staple for gifts to family and friends who have middle grade children. Understanding that they are not alone in their struggles is vitally important to raising kids who persevere in this challenging world.
