Publisher's Summary

Twelve-year-old Grace lives with her sister and grandmother in a two-bedroom rent-controlled New York City apartment. On Saturday, April 19, 1986, she finds herself on the run, outwitting her grandmother, kissing a boy she really likes, and tricking adults out of their spot in line at a local Jamaican restaurant, all while she constantly thinks about parents she never really knew. Just when she thinks she has everything under control, her world is turned upside. Her account of the day is one part punchy and humorous and another part sad and all too real.

A relatable story

I really enjoyed this book. Usually I don't listen to audio books because I prefer to bring the characters to life in my own way but this book was different. The narrator did a wonderful job and the story was interesting from start to finish. Grangran is a nosy old woman with nothing to do but get in everyone's business.

Sweet story

You'll laugh, sigh and maybe even cry.
The narrator embodies Grace's character as she takes you on a journey throughout the day. Written beautifully - time stamped and step by step details paint the perfect imagery of the emotions experienced by Grace.
