David Baldaccis neuer Ermittler John Puller findet keine Ruhe. Als er wegen eines Briefes seiner verängstigten Tante nach dem Rechten sehen will, läuft er mitten ins Verderben. Seine Tante ist tot, angeblich ertrunken. Doch Puller hat Zweifel. In ihrem kleinen Städtchen in Florida ist etwas gewaltig faul. Irgendwo hinter der Kleinstadtfassade versteckt sich eine gewaltige Verschwörung.
