Publisher's summary

Galaxies collide in a thrilling new series from best-selling author Ian Douglas, as the last humans in the universe face off against a new threat.

The year is 2162. Thirty-eight years after first contact, Lord Commander Grayson St. Clair leads the Tellus Ad Astra on an unprecedented expedition to the Galactic Core, carrying more than a million scientists, diplomats, soldiers, and AIs. Despite his reservations about their alien hosts, St. Clair is deeply committed to his people - especially after they're sucked into a black hole and spat out four billion years in the future.

Civilizations have risen and fallen. The Andromeda Galaxy is drifting into the Milky Way. And Earth is most certainly a distant memory. All that matters now is survival. But as the ship's marines search for allies amid ancient ruins and strange new planetary structures, St. Clair must wrap his mind around an enemy capable of harnessing a weapon of incomprehensible power: space itself.

Alot of Ideology and politics

A good story . A strong character base. It is just too filled with political opinions and ideology. I understand the authors intent, but I did not find it entertaining. Some may but I will not recommend this book.

Narrator Not A Good Fit

I’m about a quarter of the way into this book through Audible and I really enjoy the actual concept. But I find lacking is the actual narrators tone and Performance is just not right for this. He’s extremely bland. And I find myself not engaging with the story and by attention waning and we having to rewind because his voice is making me go numb. RC Bray would’ve been better.

Really good hard science fiction book

Very good book. Recommended for fans of hard science fiction. The narrator is excellent. This is the second book in a series of two.

Marvelous political/qar Sci-fi

If you enjoyed Ian Douglas' Star Carrier -series, but thought it contained a little too much war and military side of things, this is your book. Focusing more on exploration of the universe, political side of space warfare, and of course aliens with their advanced technologies, Altered Starscape: Andromedan Dark offers the best story and rich universe since the Hyperion Cantos, my favourite book series. Nick Sullivan does an amazing job bringing life to many fascinating characters, and is a joy to listen to. This is a must-listen to the friends of space sci-fi!

Good Sci fi story but..

Absolutely no character development. Only listened to find out what happened next in the story, nothing engaging about the characters at all...

Can I give no stars?

DON'T WASTE YOUR CREDIT! This is truly the oddest and most boring space opera I have ever read. I can't blame the narrator, he was the only saving grace that got me to try the various chapters. But the author writes like Jean Auel (Clan of the Cave Bear), going on and on describing minute details, but without the historical research she did. I actually skipped one chapter after half of it was nothing more than descriptive words with absolutely no one doing anything.

I can't really spoil this book for you as I couldn't finish it but the author let his imagination run wild. There is a VR addicted society with caretakers who seem to believe the addicted are "transcended" Gods, a society of what came across as giant mammoth elephants with 2 brains, the wolf spider society, just too much fantasy for me.

You may find this book funny. I found it so over the top with no real story I could find believable that I gave up on it and am returning it.
