Acerca de esta escucha
All Waiting Is Long tells the stories of the Morgan sisters, a study in contrasts.
In 1930, 25-year-old Violet travels with her 16-year-old sister Lily from Scranton, Pennsylvania, to the Good Shepherd Infant Asylum in Philadelphia, so Lily can deliver her illegitimate child in secret. In doing so, Violet jeopardizes her engagement to her longtime sweetheart, Stanley Adamski. Meanwhile, Mother Mary Joseph, who runs the Good Shepherd, has no idea the asylum's physician, Dr. Peters, is involved in eugenics and experimenting on the girls with various sterilization techniques.
Five years later, Lily and Violet are back home in Scranton, one married, one about to be, each finding her own way in a place where a woman's worth is tied to her virtue. Against the backdrop of the sweeping eugenics movement and rogue coal mine strikes, the Morgan sisters must choose between duty and desire. Either way, they risk losing their marriages and each other.

Historia
American women—American wives—have been mostly minor characters in the literature of the Vietnam War, but in Absolution they take center stage. Tricia is a shy newlywed, married to a rising attorney on loan to navy intelligence. Charlene is a practiced corporate spouse and mother of three, a beauty and a bully. In Saigon in 1963, the two women form a wary alliance as they balance the era’s mandate to be “helpmeets” to their ambitious husbands with their own, inchoate impulse to “do good” for the people of Vietnam.

A Continuation...
I devoured both this book as well as its predecessor, ""Sing in the Morning, Cry at Night." I loved the continuation of Violet's story, her growth as a character, the view of how times have changed in coal country.
And yet, I found this book dealt almost exclusively with sexuality and childbearing and shame, and therefore, in its complexity, much darker than "Sing in the Morning."
I loved being able to understand the views of women's sexuality, which explained the characters and their actions. And yet, I elt like the entire book focused on it with little else holding it up.
I hope to read more about this family, maybe see what WWII or the 1950s brings to the Morgan family.

Barbara Taylor wrote a perfect sequel I Loved it!
What did you love best about All Waiting Is Long?
I absolutely loved the characters in their new roles as young adults going through the most difficult of times. Mostly Violet as she always fought to make life wonderful for Daisy through love and faith and no matter what it cost her. She did this in a quietly and dignified manner. The stakes were high but doing the right thing was the most important thing of all not for herself but for the sweet child. I also loved the way the author enlightens us with the details of the city of Scranton the mentions of famous buildings, streets and all the unmentionables. I feel like my Dad was still with me sharing one of his own stories or two from his youth. I was able to relate to the community as it is my hometown. The historical buildings still stand with there grandeur and I am always gazing up to take in all the intricate details of the buildings. The stories our parents and grandparents spoke of were undoubtedly true. Oh my the goings on that went on, no wonder why the woman of faith were staunch and righteous and Barbara takes us back into the 1930 and opens our eyes to what life was like in small towns just starting to grow. I can't wait for next book . I'm sure it will be just as amazing !!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Violet as she always fought to make life wonderful for Daisy through love and faith and no matter what it cost her. She did this in a quietly and dignified manner. How can you not love Violet ?
What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?
This was my first time using an Audible performance. Tavia Gilbert did an amazing performance. I had to rewind a few times to listen again and again as I wasn't sure if their were more then one person doing the readings. I could easily put Lily's voice to her character through Tavia's performance she really brought the book to life.
If you could take any character from All Waiting Is Long out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would take Violet out to dinner as she is the most deserving of a night out.
Any additional comments?
Thank you Barbara for your gift of writing I enjoyed this book so much.
Please give us more :)
