Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author John Eldredge offers listeners a breathtaking look into God's promise for a new heaven and a new Earth.

This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home - the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things", by which he means the Earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter, and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new".

More than anything else, how you envision your future shapes your current experience. If you knew that God was going to restore your life and everything you love any day, if you believed a great and glorious goodness was coming to you - not in a vague heaven but right here on this Earth - you would have a hope to see you through anything, an anchor for your soul, "an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God" (Hebrews 6:19).

Most Christians (most people, for that matter) fail to look forward to their futures because their view of heaven is vague, religious, and frankly boring. Hope begins when we understand that for the believer nothing is lost. Heaven is not a life in the clouds; it is not endless harp strumming or worship singing. Rather, the life we long for, the paradise Adam and Eve knew, is precisely the life that is coming to us. And that life is coming soon.

Hope. Wonder. Anticipation. Life.

Never disappointed with John's books. As with others, this book is like the bridge on his grandfather's ranch: full of beauty and adventure that connects me with Jesus. Thanks, John!

Not my cup of rea

Turned it back in to redeem my credit. I gave it the first few chapters and it didn't get better for me. I like something more scriptural instead of listening to people's experiences.

Chapter 2 and 10 are worth the whole read.

Years of seeing these scriptures and not knowing what to fully do with them, this author unabashfully addresses the things that Jesus, Peter and Paul seem to always come back to; the deep invocations, we don't seem to fully connect with as they do. As if our imagination a different end to the story that God promised since the very beginning

I thought it would be different

The book was like a picture of a dream of heaven. Very hypothetical and imaginary. He's correct in his thinking pattern, but I guess I was hoping it would be more factual and with ton of Bible verses rather than a "picture this" kind of book.

Destiny Beyond Belief

Many times I have heard Christians, even those who are considered disciples, elders, deacons, talk about Heaven, up in the air with God, floating around, never comprehending what was said about the New Heaven, new earth and The new Jerusalem coming out of heaven down to earth and where heaven truly will be for us. The beauty, wonder, excitement that awaits with a new glorified body.

If you dare to dream, this book is for you! I caught myself laughing, crying and dreaming like a child and I trust, you will too!

Touched My Heart

Life Changing! This is one of the most refreshing books I've listened to in years. I was given this book as a gift from a friend. My life is very busy so I downloaded the audio and switched back and forth between the two. Ended up listening and following along reading most of the entire time... John has a wonderful voice and delivery. I'd recommend this method of listening and reading... 5 Stars and I'm reading it over again.
