Publisher's summary

A serial killer is stalking Virginia’s young lovers, taking their lives and taunting police with a single clue: a jack of hearts. For two years, the meaning of this card has eluded FBI investigators. But as Scarpetta begins searching the victims’ remains for microscopic clues, she begins to suspect that someone in the FBI knows more about the murderer.

Typical mystery

Pretty standard fare, nice listening. Dragged in spots, you could skip sections and still be happy.

Great if you don’t mind chapter mismatch

Great story of course ... but if you’re a stickler for accuracy the mismatched chapter titles (chapter 1 announced as chapter 6, chapter 7 announced as chapter 4 etc) then it will irk you. silly mistake, hopefully it will be corrected.

Just a technical glitch

Of, course the story is good and well read.
My pet peeve is when the audio chapters do not line up with the original characters. And, when I set the sleep mode to "End of Chapter" so I remember where I was last, it never makes sense. This one seems to be so far off as it goes along that chapter 17 is somehow also chapter 28. Or vice versa. I cannot keep up.

Best book so far...

Gritty and dramatic, this 3rd book in the series held my attention all the way through to the end. The author still likes her complicated plots and the narration is still somewhat dreadful, but it was still a very good book.

A very good story

A very good story that doesn't give you the answer to quickly and isn't overly cryptic.

Perfect—as only Patricia Cornwell can do

After reading/listening to the latest book in the Scarpetta series, Livid, and awaiting for her next book to come out, I decided to start the series from the very first Kay Scarpetta book, Postmortem. I just finished this one, All That Remains, the 3rd in the series. It is actually quite a pleasure to reread/listen to these books and visualize how the characters grow.

I read this book long ago when it first came out (early 1990s). I can say that I have not remembered hardly anything from when I first read these books—(30+ years of reading, momhood, college, and doctoral studies will do that to ya!!). It is quite delightful and pleasing to read the books again with the background I now have yet the material and content seems so new?

I am ALWAYS amazed at PC’s writing— the way she builds her characters and have them slowly grow over the series! Plus, how well-researched her medical terminology is and the phenomenal knowledge of that which she writes! It seems so carefully planned and does not lose its momentum from one book to another.

I am already putting on the headphones to listen to next book in the series!

Excellent Series!! One of my top favorite authors!!

Same

I’ve listened to this series before, and it’s very slow and repetitive. It was free, so I got it, but would never use a credit to buy one.
