Publisher's Summary

He's found the woman he wants to marry - it's a shame she is already engaged to someone else.

Mary Hatcher traveled to London to procure a trousseau for her upcoming marriage. When she attends the Frost Fair and meets a different man that ignites her interest, she tamps down the unwelcome feelings. But when her host’s son arrives at dinner and she learns he is the man she met at the Frost Fair, she has a new challenge: She must spend the Christmas Season in the same house as him without falling in love.

Andrew Bright, the earl of Sanders, can never live up to his father’s legacy, so why bother trying? When he runs into a charming woman at the Frost Fair and later learns she is his mother’s guest, he is overjoyed. At least until he learns of her engagement. But friendship with her is better than nothing, until she threatens to push him into doing what he has long avoided - stepping into his father’s shoes.

Five Christmas romances and the Frost Fair that started them all.

This is the second book in the clean and sweet regency romance Belles of Christmas: Frost Fair series. Although this forbidden-love romance is a stand-alone novel, the books are best enjoyed when listened in order.

  1. Her Silent Knight by Ashtyn Newbold
  2. All Is Mary and Bright by Kasey Stockton
  3. Thawing the Viscount's Heart by Mindy Burbidge Strunk
  4. On the Second Day of Christmas by Deborah M. Hathaway
  5. The Christmas Foundling by Martha Keyes

Delightful!

Mary and Andrew were delightful . . . as were Andrew's sisters, Anne and Caroline. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing these friendships develop. The setting was delightful and the details of the games they played along with the festive air of their home during Christmas was an added joy.

Mary, being a dutiful daughter, is bound to a real "bounder" as she comes to find out. It was definitely not a love match but rather a financial rescue for her father. Ultimately the truth comes out about Mr. Lockhart but, even then, it is complicated to break a signed betrothal contract. Andrew, who has so much self-doubt as he compares himself to his deceased father, is truly a hero and a wonderful character.

I loved the humor and lighthearted interactions between Mary and Andrew (as well as their cute meet), but I especially loved the obvious underlying feelings developing as the story grows and they begin to know one another better.

This was truly a delightful story with just the right amount of underlying tension (both bad and good). Kasey Stockton is an author whose books never disappoint. I also really enjoyed the audible narration on this story.

Ruined by Narrator

I was looking forward to this book, but I’m now going to return it…
The narrator - Jennifer Smith - just ruined it for me.
She read it very fast, I slowed it down, but even doing this wasn’t enough to make it possible for me to get past chapter four!! Her reading was very squeaky and overall annoying.
So with regret I gave up and am now returning the book.
