Good Story

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This was a good love story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. It is nice to know that a person can pursue their true interest even after being excellent at the job they were in. I love that she would not tell who made the mistake. It was also good that the company found out and did not fire the guy. The hero's sister was a hoot and made the story even more interesting. Loved his son also. The narrator needs to spend a little more time being a narrator though.

Be True to Yourself

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

As I listened to this story, I kept nodding my head as I listened to Alida's experiences working at a large corporation. Falling into a job...getting promoted repeatedly but feeling like a fake on the job...stress, anxiety and sleepless nights... Yeah, been there, done that! Either Ms. Lumas was channeling my life, or she's done her research about what it's like to be an artist in a non-artistic environment. Happily, Alida has the courage to make the break with corporate life, and she finds she can be herself and be valued for who she truly is.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alida's Way?

The conversation with her mother when Alida announces she's going to make a living as an artist is almost IDENTICAL to the conversation I had with MY mother under similar circumstances.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

This is read by the author, and her delivery is just not as smooth as a professional narrator.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Trying to avoid spoilers here... Alida's reaction after the scene on the rock took me by surprise. Was it added to fulfill the "boy loses girl" stage of the classic romance plot?

Any additional comments?

Despite a few flaws, I enjoyed this book, perhaps because it rang so true to (my) life. I was rooting for the lovers and rejoiced in their HEA. It's worth listening again.

To Thine Own Self Be True.

The title of my review is the essence of this story. So many listeners especially women will relate to the compromises of
a woman on the Corporate ladder to success.Very few are willing to give it up to basically fulfill their emotional needs.

The story is realistic with good character development.

Follow your dream

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to a friend for a light read.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the fact Alida stood up for her fellow employees and quit instead of divulging what she knew about the mistake.

What does Giselle Lumas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I suppose she is able to give her interpretation of what she thinks the characters should sound like.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked when the older members of her class were betting on her and Jack.

Relatable Main Character

At first, I really identified with this character. She is an artist working in the business world so she can afford to pay her bills and have a decent life. I enjoyed that aspect of the book and she decision to leave the corporate world. Where this fell a little short for me was in the language. The dialogue between characters and the self-talk didn't seem very natural. Had this had natural language and dialogue, I think I would have enjoyed it more.

I do like when author's narrate their own books. It gives a better idea what tone the author really wants for the book. The author/narrator's voice seemed to fit the character well.

Be true and follow your heart

This was a great light listen. I love the story and the way the narrator creates the main characters with a lot of details. This is one I would listen to again when looking for something easy and enjoyable.
Giselle does a good job switching between the adults and the children in the book seamlessly.
