Publisher's summary

The man who invented shock rock tells the amazing and, yeah, shocking story of how he slayed his thirsty demons with a golf club. It started one day when Cooper was watching a Star Trek rerun between concerts, bored and drunk on a quart-of-whiskey-a-day habit. A friend dragged the rocker out of his room and suggested a round of golf. Cooper has been a self-confessed golf addict ever since.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is Cooper's tell-all memoir. In it, he talks candidly about his entire life and career, as well as his struggles with alcohol, how he fell in love with the game of golf, how he dried out at a sanitarium back in the late '70s, and how he put the last nails in his addiction's coffin by getting up daily at 7 a.m. to play 36 holes.

This is the story of Cooper's life, and also a story about golf. He rose from hacker to scratch golfer to serious Pro Am competitor and on to his status today as one of the best celebrity golfers around - all while rising through the rock 'n' roll ranks, releasing platinum albums and selling out arenas with his legendary act.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is an unlikely and captivating tale full of wretched excess, life-saving redemption, ghoulish eye makeup, power chords, and five irons to the center of the green.

Critic reviews

"What a blast from the past, and such insight to the future! Alice Cooper, Golf Monster shares Alice's personal life mission, interwoven with great stories and characters from the 60s through the present in rock and roll. Not to mention some wonderful golf tips and experiences, humorously presented. Thank you Alice, for a nice ride!" (Michael Douglas, actor and creator of the Michael Douglas & Friends Charity Golf Tournament)

Another Visit by Alice Cooper

this is the second time to enjoy the book by Alice Cooper, Vince. He is a good storyteller and easily biggest name dropper I've ever listened to. that is because he seems to have met everybody who's anybody.

In this book Alice takes his favorite pastime, playing golf, and tells us why it happened and how he does it. Like everything else he wants to be a star whatever he's in front of people.

If you are looking for some casual reading, or in this case, listening then I recommend this book. Of course if you don't know who he is it may not be that big of a deal. But for those of you who grew up with him then take a chance.

Golf monster!

A top notch experience like only Alice Cooper can provide. As candid as his on stage rock-theater and as inspirational as any theological work, Alice shares the very darkest and very brightest moments of his life with us. This is as intimate a view into a celebrity’s private struggles and successes as anyone could share. If only our corporate and world leaders were as honest as Alice, the world would be a better place. Alice Cooper for President 2020!! You need to be Elected (pin totally intended)...but who to run as VP? Perhaps Joe Walsh or Ted Nugent would be on the short list. Thank you, Alice, for another experience of a lifetime.

I only wish the book was longer

if you like rock and roll and golf and can't get enough of either one then this book is absolutely perfect and only could be better if it was a little bit longer.

Very Enjoyable

This was an extremely entertaining book and I especially appreciated that it was narrated by Alice Cooper. I just wish it had been the full book instead of abridged.

WOW! What a Story!

I’ve always gotten a kick out of Alice Cooper, I like to golf, and I have my own recovery story. This audiobook scored a virtual hat trick by sharing awesome, historical, personal, and meaningful stories in all three realms. Alice - come visit me in Yorba Linda, and my friend Brad and I will treat you to an early morning round at Black Gold.

SO GOOD!!!!

It was very well-written and engaging, but hearing him read it himself was next level!

(My only suggestion for audio is to divide by actual book chapters, because the 4, 1 hour 1 minute sections began and ended in the middle of sentences, so that was a little weird. Still, it's a quicker read, so it's easy to go through without needing or wanting to stop!)

Inspiring

What does Alice Cooper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy listening to people's life stories as they tell them. This was no exception. I smiled and laughed more because I could hear his passion and his recollection come through the narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Later in the book when Alice talks about his Christian walk, it was incredible. He's got so many diverse aspects of his personality and it moved me quite deeply to know that he and I share a faith. It explains why throughout my own walk I haven't felt the need to disregard his music and still find myself attending his concerts. Alice is a good man, a good husband, and a good father and I love that he made a huge positive out of his previously negative choices!
