Leaves much to be desired

The narration was good, and probably the sole reason I didn’t give this a 1-Star review.

But the text was awful. It read like a horribly bad translation of a foreign language tome. And not just occasionally, but regularly throughout the book. Even so, the 2-Star rating has more to do with the actual lack of substance than the bad translation. It is a sophomoric attempt. The research is superficial, the organization is lacking, and the content is generally boring.

I read a lot of historical biographies. This is probably one of the worst. It’s best use is probably that of background noise or something to fall asleep to, if your brain doesn’t rebel at the pedantry.
