Publisher's Summary

A year ago, Sunny Nwazue, an American-born Nigerian girl, was inducted into the secret Leopard Society. As she began to develop her magical powers, Sunny learned she had been chosen to lead a dangerous mission to avert an apocalypse, brought about by the terrifying masquerade Ekwensu. Now, stronger, feistier, and a bit older, Sunny is studying with her mentor, Sugar Cream, and struggling to unlock the secrets in her strange Nsibidi book.

Eventually, Sunny knows she must confront her destiny. With the support of her Leopard Society friends Orlu, Chichi, and Sasha, and of her spirit face, Anyanwu, she will travel through worlds both visible and invisible to the mysterious town of Osisi, where she will fight a climactic battle to save humanity.

Much-honored Nnedi Okorafor, winner of the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy awards, merges today's Nigeria with a unique world she creates. Akata Warrior blends mythology, fantasy, history, and magic into a compelling tale that will keep listeners spellbound.

Akata warrior

I just discovered this awesome author and her tales of Sunny. I love, love this series!! So much more than the Harry Potter series, this is the black version, but with much more flavor for both children and adults!! This is a series that children with Brown skin can identify with as well as realize that we belong, even in fantasy, too a world of our own imagination as well!!

It left me wanting to pick up with more. come on audible!! There are tons of voracious black and Brown readers. Let's see more from this author and more authors like her!! Well done, story, characters and narrator!

best narration I've heard!

this book as well as the first book, akata witch, has had some of the best narration I've ever heard. authentic accents to the characters and region that it was set. Loved this book for the beautifully colorful storyline. Incredibly well-written fiction. I am looking forward to more books by this author.

Another fantastic African cultural adventure

I so much love this series. Akata Warrior takes us on another winding adventure with Sunny, Chichi, Orlu, and Sasha as they strive to save the world while also navigating teenage angst and mischievousness. Note to reader, although patterned similarly to the Harry Potter characters, there is less pretense of innocence with these early teens. There is so much to appreciate about how Okorafor paints each of her main and even some of the peripheral characters, and also captures so much of Nigerian and African culture. As someone who is not Nigerian, but has been there and to West Africa many times, I loved the description of the food, mores, relationships, and in particular the overland trip to Lagos. I too have cursed those roads.

The narrator for this audiobook, Yetide Badaki, was excellent. She captured each of the voices, accents, and the narration itself perfectly. I have listened to other books centered in Africa where the narration is poor or forced. Not here. Even the silly parts, like "Grashcutter" were done well. It helps to have someone who knows and loves the culture to translate it properly.

This was fun. I can't wait for the next adventure.

The Narration Was Like Being on Vacation

I thoroughly enjoyed both Akata Witch and Akata Warrior. Yetide Badaki's narration elevated an already fun and fascinating story filled with wonder and adventure. I even went and bought the hard copy of both books and gave them to my 12 year old granddaughter to read. She's read them twice!!
I usually skip on reviewing books beyond the star ranking, but I truly recommend giving these books a spot on your shelf.

Great sequel that ends too quickly

This is great world building and storytelling that ends too abruptly and neatly, but it was very immersive and enjoyable.

Good Listen

It was a pleasant listen, not a great book but pleasant one. If you listened to first in series then you should listen to this one as well.
