Publisher's summary

The adventure continues.… It’s been six months since Marcus and Kyja obtained the help of the land and water elementals, but before they can secure help from the mysterious air elementals, the two friends must first be reunited. A task easier said than done. Master Therapass is worried that trying to pull Marcus to Farworld would put him in danger of the shadow realm, but if Marcus stays on Earth, he'll be sent back to the Philo T. Justice School for Boys instead of being able to stay on the protected grounds of the monastery.

While attempting to return to Farworld, Marcus find himself in the Abyss of Time, facing four doors: the Is, the Was, the Will Be, and the Never Was. What he learns in that dangerous place has the potential to change his life - and Kyja's. But does he have the courage to tell her what he learned?

And in Farworld, a drought, floods, and blizzards have seized the land, hinting that perhaps there is a traitor in the elementals' midst. The Dark Circle is growing in power, and as Marcus and Kyja desperately search for the air elementals, they must first answer the question "Is there anyone we can trust?"

another good addition to the series

Any additional comments?

We have enjoyed this series. Starting to get a little darker, but not totally depressing, with a no hope style like we have seen in other books. The ending will leave you wanting to start the next ASAP. While there is a little too much emotional reaction form the main characters, but not overbearing. The narrator is good, sometimes a little too flat but not enough to spoil the narration. Overall definitely worth the listen.

Disappointment

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes and No The series which isn't finished yet, leaves you hanging

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cry, these two 10 yr olds trying to help everyone along the way and get throw back 2 steps each time.

Any additional comments?

I really liked listening to the tales but didn't know that it was not the last book.
I was very disappointment that at least Audible would post something.
I love series books, but not to be blindsided by the fact no knowing up front that
this series is not finished.

Fantastic Saga

The Saga continues! And what a continuation! So often trilogies slow down on book 2 and reach a lull but no such slowing happens in "Air Keep." The pace is fast without being frantic, the dialogue between characters remains robust and while I was at first reticent about the new narrator, his style grew on me and became quite enjoyable. And as always, the strengths of J. Scott, World Building and Storyline, remain core in "Air Keep." The twists and turns of plot are a medley of intrigue and excitement that no lover of fantasy will want to miss.

Sequel again

The adventure continues. One more elemental to go... Will creatures/people still betray the main characters or will the worlds for good win?

Major Dip in Quality

J. Scott Savage took a 5 year break in between writing the first two books and this one. In that time, it feels like he lost track of where he was going and what made this series so special. It feels like a totally different person wrote it, and it is far from the quality of the originals. If you are reading thru all 4 books in succession, you will definitely feel it.

R. C. Bray, while a good narrator, has far too gruff of a voice to be narrating children. I will say that his take on Kyja (while often hard to tell it is her speaking) is an improvement from the previous narrator.

Overall, it's still Farworld, and it's worth the read. Just a lower caliber than the first two books.
