Publisher's Summary

Penelope Keith - who starred as Agatha Raisin in the popular BBC Radio 4 series - reads the whole of M. C. Beaton’s novel.

Reports of a haunted house soon have amateur sleuth Agatha Raisin snooping around, only to discover the victim of the haunting is a universally disliked old biddy on whom someone is playing a practical joke. But then the old lady is murdered and, for Agatha - Miss Marple with attitude - solving a crime is much more fun than ghost busting. Very soon she’s up to her usual tricks, involving the villagers, local police, and, naturally, her handsome new neighbour.

Penelope Keith is marvelous

This audio experience was saved from total ruin by the marvelous performance of Penelope Keith. Otherwise it is a silly little story about a silly, annoying woman and her succession of boringly described outfits.

Always and enjoyable listen

Would you listen to Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House again? Why?

I really enjoy Penelope Keith's portrayal of Agatha Raisin. There is something about Agatha in everybody, she is not a perfect heroine and her frailties make her very endearing as a character.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy the way that the "heroine"stumbles through her quest and uses instinct to get to the answer

Which character – as performed by Penelope Keith – was your favourite?

Agatha is definitely my favourite character and I am sure she has a little bit of every listener inside her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would listen to this book at one sitting if I had the time.

Any additional comments?

I enjoy all of MC Beatons books. They are not put into audiobooks quick enough!

M C Beaton at her best

Agatha Raisin is as always.... good. So is Penelope Keith reading the story. I cannot imagine anyone else doing the dialogue. Agatha reminds me of myself.

No plot to speak of why under crime?

Bought this for long journey...Don't really know how this book is under 'crime' heading there is VERY little crime solving going on. If you thought Agatha Christie was short on plot.. think again. Most of this book seems to be padded out with descriptions of Agatha's clothes and lovelife. Got a bit tedious. ALSO HOW old is this woman Agatha supposed to be? 'Bio' I read elsewhere says she was supposed to be 52 in 2003 BUT it also says she went to a B'ham Comp and attended computer lessons at night school.. she is too old for a comp and computer lessons! M C Beaton can't even be bothered to get facts right!Very bad.
She should also make up her mind if she is writing a romance or a detective novel and do ONE well, combined they are both weak and boring.

Enjoyable enough.

What I would call an easy read. I've read a few Agatha Raisin's, they have their own style. A bit far fetched but pleasant enough. Shame she has such dire times with men.

Good listen

I didn’t like the new neighbour but sir Charles coming back was great. Over all a very good listen, they are fun and and Agatha is brilliant. Penelope Keith does go over the top sometimes. I do enjoy her enthusiasm though keep looking forward to the next one.

Agatha does it again

Agatha Raisin is a fantastic character investigating well-plotted crime stories. M. C. Beaton is truly one of the best cosy crime writers of all time.
