Publisher's summary

Rachel gave up seeking a Master years ago. After a failed marriage and terrible tragedy, she's walled her soul against going down that dangerous path again. Then Jon joins her yoga class. He's 13 years younger than she, but his Dominant nature threatens her shields from the moment she recognizes it. Not only does he understand what her body wants - he knows what her soul craves.

Part of the five-man executive team of Kensington & Associates, Jon uses his calm, philosophical nature to defuse volatile acquisition negotiations. He can compel opponents to willingly surrender when he draws the sword that closes the deal. As a sexual Dominant, he employs that same expertise. A spiritually driven Master who enjoys connecting with a woman's soul, he wins her utter submission with his skills. But with Rachel, it goes beyond that. She's the submissive his own soul has always hungered to have, and he won't hesitate to use his talents, as well as those of the other four K&A men, to claim her.

Excellent

This story touch a deep part of me. Joey Hill has a knack for writing characters that I can relate to. Maxine Mitchell delivers the story with such passion and emotion, that I felt a part of the story and it was as if this story was written about me. Loved it!

Wow, so good, so hot and so very perfect!

While all the books in this series have been outstanding, Afterlife is my favorite so far. Rachel has faced both heartbreak and heart wrenching tragedy. Afraid to act on her desires and allow herself what she wants, what she needs, what she craves, Rachel tries to hide from her true self. Jon, many years her junior is an old soul and sees right through Rachel. What follows is a journey of discovery for both of them. Make no mistake, this book is every bit as hot, naughty, and forbidden as those that preceded it. Magnificently written and beautifully narrated, this one is not to be missed.

Passionate

Maxine Mitchell is a great narrator. I do, however, believe the book would have benefited from a male narrator as well.

The story is compelling with a strong alpha male who doesn’t shy from any means to get what he wants. Not SSC, exactly, with some dub-con.

Sucks, not in a good way

I normally love Joey W. Hill. She writes compelling characters and the hottest sex scenes. But, I've never hated a heroine more! Morose, insecure, whiny, disgusting, and weak. Narrator reads the whole thing in this constant irritating whine. I can't stand this type of person. This is the first Joey W. Hill book I just couldn't finish.

Just to be clear, I'm a middle aged woman, and was looking forward to a mature romance. This is not that!

Conflicted

I've loved this series so far but this particular book was difficult for me to get through. I thought being middle-aged myself I would find more in common with the female character but I was wrong. I felt Rachel was a whiny scaredy cat, always scared and not wanting happiness for herself. It really pissed me off reading about a woman that far in her life just existing and martyring herself. John had a lot more patience than I did for, which I guess was the whole point. I will go on with the series and hopefully the next book will have a better heroine.

One of my Favs

I absolutely love the K&A Men. Jon is the creative genius of the bunch and is the one with the calmest and most steady temperament . Rachel is 13 years older than Jon and has a past that has affected her in all aspects of her life. I love how Jon is patient and loving to her and coaxes her gently to accept herself. The book is a bit drawn out and Rachel does become annoying at points, but Jon is the rock and pursues her with vigor.
