Publisher's Summary

With international flights crisscrossing the skies on an hourly basis, are we ever really safe?

When a strain of the Ebola virus mutates; it spreads quickly leaving the medical community shattered. People are dropping in the streets and life, as most know it, comes to an end. Two city dweller survivors, Dean and William, are forced to flee the city and live in the wilderness - where dangers lurk behind every tree and in every valley. Not everyone alive after the end is good, and William and Dean are faced with challenges that would bring many to their knees.

Growing up in the hood of Atlanta, Dean knows how to overcome trials, but he knows nothing of love. Can he sustain a relationship with William, or will his doubts end them before they even have a chance?

From birth William has had a silver spoon in his mouth and two in each hand, but the end brings him face to face with reality where he has to take responsibility for his life. After the end, money has no meaning, and life is lived on the edge.

Join William and Dean after the end and find out how close to the edge they come.

Pandemic story

The story was a little Risqué if you are not comfortable with homosexuality. But the story is set during a pandemic that feels close to our current events. It felt real and could actually happen. The two main characters overcome obstacles to make it through to the end. They find true love and overcome their own fear of being disowned and hatred.

Gripping

I was not expecting this, but I quickly fell down the rabbit hole on this one. This might sound heartless and harsh, but Will's parents death set him free in many ways to be himself and find his inner strength. A wake up call for love and humanity!! Gripping , raw, and intense! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did an amazing job bringing it to life.

not quite 4 stars

Would I listen to it again: I wouldn't not listen to it again
Did the story keep me engaged: mostly
Was I invested in the characters: reasonably

Story comment: I haven't found many "end of the world" books with a M/M romance twist. The characters are likeable and the story is a roller-coaster ride for survival in a world of chaos. I found it entertaining enough, but it was just missing 'something' that elevated it from good to completely immersible for me.

Narrator comment: For the most part, Christopher Dattoli has done a reasonable job on the narration. Each character has his own voice and their emotions came through to give them life. Sometimes though, the "narrative" between dialog felt stilted. Like. Every. Word. Is. It's. Own. Sentence. which was weird - because when the characters were speaking it was totally fine, and I found the narration didn't really build the tension that the story needed.

give it a miss

was a really poor attempt at merging a mm romance with the walking dead. i found that the scenarios faced by the couple were a case of what can we throw at them now...don't worry if ita plausible. whoever edited this book needa to have another look.
the narration was offputting i found. maybe it was a little too overdone. i really struggled to finish this one.

William and Dean

William is rich and Dean is poor, Seniors in High school. A pandemic hits the world and William realises he must save Dean, it is a love story amongst death and destruction of the world as they knew it. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was written in 2014, not after the Covid 19 outbreak. Really enjoyed it.

Post-apocalyptic love.

I honestly did not expect to love this story as much as I did.
Dean and William are so young, and thought they both have feelings for the other and have been secretly hooking up for years, external circumstances prevent them for acknowledging their feelings and really being together. Everything changes when a spread of mutated virus Ebola bursts and kills the majority of the population. William and Dean find each other and stick together to survive, meanwhile exploring their young love.
A heartbreaking, anxiety-inducing but also heartwarming story.

Something different for you

This book was not what I was expecting but in a very pleasant way. The storyline makes you stop and think about things in the world especially in the current climate. With good characters and a well built world this was a very enjoyable read.

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
