Michelle Obama launched a Podcast. And guess who she chose as her first guest? 

Michelle chose the man in her life, her husband, Barack Obama.

My name is Phillip Nyakpo. I am the creator and producer of AfricanPod Business Forum, a podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and YouTube. 

AfricanPod is grounded in having thoughtful conversations. 

So I decided to review Mrs. Obama’s Podcast because this first podcast can be summarised as a deep and thoughtful conversation between a woman and her husband who have been shaped by various experiences in the glare of the public – but also ceased the chance to accept the hard work of managing their relationships, raising children and more often than not,  willing to share their stories. 

Michelle Obama’s Podcast comes with good value for everyday living, signaling that she wants to keep pointing to the importance of taking time for deep reflections on life.

Sure, the Obamas are best known for their 8 years in the White House, as Barack served as the 44th President of the United States. Michelle’s life in politics, of course, did not start with her years in the White House. 

She first experienced politics as a wife when her husband was Senator for a number of years. So it is easy to see her mostly in the context of politics.

It is possible, however, to appreciate Michelle’s podcast outside politics. 

And the best way is, to the extent possible, suspend your knowledge of her as a person closely linked to the harsh full-contact sport, called politics.

Dr. Pedus Eweama is a Nigerian Medical Doctor in Perth. He used to be a professional Nurse when he first arrived in Australia. But after a few short years, he enrolled in Medical School and eventually qualified as a Medical Doctor. 

Dr. Eweama also serves as President of the Nigerian Association of Western Australia. He is very concerned about the negative image of Nigeria and Nigerians across the world. He saw an opportunity to correct this when he was invited for the launch of Gibbous Moon Over Lagos, a book written by Pamela Watson. 

His invitation included a chance to speak to the audience.

"There is obviously more to Nigeria than what you read in the Media," he said.

To be sure he is not dismissed as being just blind patriot, Dr. Eweama says the nation of 200 million people does face real challenges including incompetent leadership."I can tell you if our country Nigeria improves, and if we happen to have good leaders, there are way more opportunities than you can see in most of the western countries - and this is the truth. We have been plagued by poor leadership" 

According to Dr Eweama, there are about 2000 Nigerians in Western Australia, they are working hard to change the persistently negative perception of Nigeria. 

For the modest audience at the University of Western Australia, Dr. Pedus Eweama did really come across as a passionate advocate for Nigeria and Nigerians. AfricanPod Business Forum is a production of AfricanPod Media in Perth.
