Publisher's summary

Adoption is a tangible way for families to live out their faith in God and fight injustice. But is a heart to serve enough to help these families overcome the challenges they will face? After more than fourteen years of working in the orphan care and adoption advocacy world, author Karen Springs set out on a road trip across the US to explore what happens after adoptive families bring their children home and real life begins. Using her own experiences and those of the 63 adoptive families she interviewed, Karen unpacks the lessons we all can learn through the brokenness and beauty of adoption.

You’ll discover:

  • Your family is not alone in the challenges of the adoption journey
  • Surprising treasures can be found in the harder aspects of adoptive parenting

Gaining a rearview mirror perspective of the lesser discussed aspects of adoption can better prepare you for the road ahead. This is a road trip you won’t want to miss!

highly recommend!!

karen writes with such excellence! she holds the good and hard parts of adoption with such grace. as an older sister to adopted kiddos, i find this book to be full of stories that i can relate to and learn from. she writes in such a way that acknowledges all the hurt while staying focused on the hope found in God thought it all. getting to listen to karen read this book, tell of her experiences and what she’s learned is so valuable!
id recommend this book to anyone who has adopted, is adopting, may one day adopt, knows an adoptive family, wants to learn a little more about the reality of adoption, or is reading this review. i promise it’ll be some of the best few hours you could spend!

Beautiful

Karen's writing in "Adoption Through the Rearview Mirror," is nothing short of beautiful. The way she weaves together the narratives of individuals who are walking the path of life with adopted children creates a collection of powerful stories that touch the soul.

As my husband and I embark on our own journey into foster care, this book came into our lives at the perfect moment. The firsthand accounts shared provide invaluable insights into the joys, challenges, and triumphs of adoption. I think this book is a must-read for anyone considering adoption.

I love that this book not only celebrates the beauty of adoption but also provides a roadmap for those navigating the complexities of this incredible journey. It's a beacon of hope, a source of wisdom, and a testament to love.

Understanding how adoption affects all members of the family. God’s plan is perfect 🙏

Karen, thank you 🙏 for writing this book 📖, for your obedience in working with orphans and following up with these families.

I am a biological sibling in a household that adopted 4 children, we were a total of 6 children in our home. My 2 elder sisters came from a foster home (Catholic Charities) and my 2 younger siblings are actually my cousins (father’s side) that were adopted all in 1979. My biological brother and me were smack in the middle.

This book was a blessing because it allowed me to ponder about how some of these stories told were or are very similar to experiences my family went through. Thank you for tying it all up on how God’s plan is always perfect. I have shared the book with my elder sisters, since they understand English more than my younger sister (Spanish primary language).

Thank you again for this gift 🎁 and this blessing! 🙏🫶🏻🙌 To God be the glory always!

A true treasury of adoptive stories and encouragement, sharing truth in love

This book is an amazing help and much needed resource in the adoption community. Karen has done an incredible job gathering information from a wide array of adoptive families from those who have adopted out of birth order, adopted older children, adopted disabled children, adopted multiple children and everything in between. For those who have felt alone in the often times challenging adoption journey, this book with help provide much needed solidarity. Karen has organized the information extremely well and shares truth with a heart of love of many adoption stories. Karen shares the joys and victories as well as the struggles and challenges. It’s hard to balance the good, the bad, and everything in between, but I very much appreciate the authenticity of Karen’s book. She doesn’t skirt around the hard issues that sometimes are overlooked because it doesn’t “feel good”. I appreciated hearing the perspective of adoptees as well. There’s a great mix of relatable stories from numerous adoptive families. To my knowledge, this is the only book of its kind and Karen has done an incredible job with this book. I highly recommend it for families who are considering adoption and also for families who have already adopted and might need to hear kindred stories of families who have walked the same path. I also think this book would be helpful for non-adoptive families who want to better understand and support adoptive families. There’s a wealth of helpful information, a true treasury of adoptive stories. Thanks so much, Karen! Job well done, good and faithful servant!
