Publisher's Summary
What happens in Iowa doesn't necessary stay out of the news.
This Midwestern state is the setting for the Lillian Dove Mystery Series. My family roots have grown deep in Iowa since the 1860s. The protagonist of the series Lillian Dove is a recovering alcoholic, but her addition is not the major theme of the series. Lillian is attempting to learn what she and life may have looked like before her first drink:
"There is no graduation from alcoholism. Or life, for that matter. I am also addicted to Pepsi, chocolate, men, being afraid, being afraid of not being afraid, men - again - and my independence, co-dependence, and unsettling ability to fail no matter my attempt. There are other compulsions and bad habits, but I can't think of them right now. Memory loss, see? And I obsess on how much I forget if I remember. Giving up alcohol turned out to be easier than changing some of my other behaviors.
Especially my bad judgment when it comes to men. The type of man I'm most attracted to is like a tall, Tom Collins on a sweltering, summer day: gin, a little lemon - but not too sour - with sweet syrup and bubbly soda. It's hard to resist, even if I know it's not good for me.
I've pledged a Tom-Collins-abstinence."
While Admit to Mayhem has a sliver of romance, it is an amateur sleuth, woman protagonist, Midwest noir novel.

Good Debut
I enjoyed listening to Admit To Mayhem. Lillian Dove is a well developed and realistic character. The story includes a wide variety of characters that makes the story interesting and engaging. I would give it 5 stars but, Lillian spent so much time doubting herself that it seemed as if she was gas lighting her self. I wanted to shake her and tell her to have some confidence. Other than that I enjoyed the book and will listen to the next book. I received this book for free in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

Amazing!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I loved every second of this book. Lillian is a very sympathetic main character. She has a crappy day which turns into a more crappy day and into a crappy week. Meanwhile, everyone doubts her and ridicules her. She is trying to do good and people don't believe her. The author sent me book number 2 which I will be listening to tonight. The narrator was great and was able to do justice to all the characters in the story.

Good cozy mystery
Recovering alcoholic, Lillian Dove, is living in her mother’s senior condo after having to move her to senior care facility. Lillian is a bit of a hot mess, but she means well. She witnesses someone at a house fire but no-one believes her...then she gets laid off from her PT job at the sheriff’s dispatch. Lillian believes that there’s more to the story of the fire, and the wrong man is in custody. The problem is getting the sheriff to believe. Lillian doesn’t let that stop her...she’s going to solve a crime! Good story. I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Fun listen
Admit to Mayhem D. J. Adamson Lillian Dove is a recovering alcoholic, that is trying to get her life together. She has a couple part time jobs. one she gets fired from. When she reports a house fire, she starts snooping around trying to investigate the history of the house. There is plenty of action, some subtle humor a bit of romance, plenty of mystery, and a cat. This kept me listening to see what Lillian would get into next. The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by : Jan Kennedy.
