Publisher's summary

She was seeking revenge. What she found was a vampire who swept her into the darkest depths of passion.

Chicago, Illinois...the windy city. Home to football greats, dinosaurs named Sue, and, when the sun goes down...powerful vampires battling for the right to rule the city and beyond.

Born into slavery, Aden is one of the most powerful vampires in North America, waging war on others of his kind in a struggle to become the next Lord of the Midwest. But in the midst of the deadliest fight of his long life, the ghosts of his past have come back to haunt him. Slavery still exists, and Aden is hell-bent on destroying it and the vampires who profit from it.

Sidonie Reid is an investigative reporter in pursuit of the biggest story of her career, until that story costs the life of a friend and Sid realizes she has to do much more than write about it. Intent on bringing down the vampires and their slave network, Sid gains entry to the highest levels of vampire society, where she finds herself confronting the raw sexuality that is Aden.

Caught up in a dark passion that neither can resist, Aden and Sidonie join forces, determined to defeat the old regime and everything it stands for. The dangers are beyond calculation, but the ultimate reward is worth the risk. If they survive....

A good add to the series, if a bit darker

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

If you are a fan of Christine Feehan or Kresley Cole, you should definitely check this series out. Nick J. Russo's narration continues to be great and, like the aforementioned authors, D.B. Reynolds does a great job of making each book build on the last, but still be a standalone book focusing on a character you were introduced to in a previous book. This one focuses on Aden. Unlike the previous books in the series, this one's sex scenes were much more graphic and dark. They lacked the romantic feel the previous books had. This one focused a lot on BDSM which isn't something I am into, so that could have been it too. The book wasn't just sex, though, so this was only a minor difference in tone and not a complete detraction for me. I am still interested in continuing with this series.

Get to Aden

In the beginning it is hard to get past some of the character flaws...Aden is arrogant and cold. Sid also has her own issues. It broke my heart to learn of Aden's past growing up a slave in Morocco with such a horrible mother.

Although this book follows her formula of hot sexy vampire and a strong independent woman that have to face many challenges and threats it was had a storyline that kept me listening and wanting to know what would happen. It is a good addition to the series.

A quick advisory: This book does have some BDSM elements

Porn took the place of story.

I gave 5 stars on all the other books in the series. However, I was a little reluctant to do so on the last one. I noticed a change in the love scenes I didn't care for. But it was minor. With this book, the author's wonderful and sensual love scenes became just plain pornographic. I've seen this happen to many excellent authors and I am saddened. I've been told the authors do this because the book sales soar. What does this say about our society? Ms. Reynolds, would you want a preteen reading this? I can quit reading your books, but I love your stories. This last in the series was more sex than story. I hope you don't sell out.

I have enjoyed the whole series and Aden was no exception! Powerful and smart Aden protects and loves his children and especially his mate Sidoney. What a HOT couple! Aden is yet another strong addition to the Vampires in America series. Can"t wait for the next book, D B Reynolds please keep writing! p.s. loved the narration by Nick J. Russo.
