Lack of agility is the kiss of death. Position your company to succeed in world of change.

To edge out the competition in today’s disruptive environment, you need to ensure that your company is agile - that it can respond to change instantly and effectively. Because fast and furious change is the only thing you can count on in business today.

Network expert Michael Arena helped enable GM’s legendary turnaround. In these pages, he explains how you can transform your own company through the concept of adaptive space. Based on hundreds of interviews and the author’s own groundbreaking study of dozens of organizations spanning a variety of industries, Adaptive Space shows how to position your company for today - and for the future - by enabling creativity, innovation, and novel ideas to flow freely among teams, across departments, and throughout the company.

Using GM as the main case study - along with the stories of other highly adaptive organizations, like Apple, Amazon, Disney, and Gore - Arena provides a model you can follow to reinvent your company. It’s about inspiring employees to explore new ideas, empowering the most creative people and teams to spread their ideas across the organization, and operationalizing the entrepreneurial spirit so adaptability is set in stone.

Hesitation is a killer in today’s business landscape. With Adaptive Space, you have everything you need to confront disruption with smart, confident actions and seize the valuable opportunities that come with change.

Life changing! The lessons will become part of you.

Do not be surprised if you start using terms such as “follow the energy,” “connectors,” “brokers,” and “empathy” in your everyday language—the teachings in this book will become part of you.

I use all the tools in this book. It is an invaluable resource that changed the way I navigate and roll out small- and large-change initiatives in both my personal and professional lives.

I took Dr.Michael Arena’s class at the University of Pennsylvania 2 years ago and reading this book is the next best thing to actually sitting in his Adaptive Space class, getting his advise, and speaking with him for a fraction of UPenn’s tuition fee. I purchased both the audio book through audible and the actual book from amazon to keep in my home library as a go-to reference. If one has the chance though, nothing beats taking the live class.

I absolutely love this book! Dr. Michael Arena’s Adaptive Space book is an effective “how to” toolkit in effecting sustainable change and will be useful to organizational development novices and experts alike. This book will introduce and teach you how to harness and unleash the power of social networks and relationships, the importance of design thinking and empathy, and provide concrete tips in successfully disrupting one’s own organization from within that creates buy-in and engagement at all levels. You will discover or be reintroduced to innovative companies such as Gore Industries and their lattice network of doing work and get an inside view of how General Motors is changing the mobility business.

I am citing this book in my own capstone research as it truly changed my perspective about how to work, in effect making life richer and more meaningful for me and hopefully those I encounter.

If you are serious about effecting sustainable change, innovating, or want to start your career on a high note, keep this book on hand.

Excellent, Easy Listening Business Book

Adaptive Space illustrates what any manager or leader needs to understand - flexibility is key, as well as inviting conflict to achieve new product realms and achievements. The book describes multiple cases to solidify grasp of the material presented. Spot on the target! The narrator, Dave Clark, is easy to listen to and even enjoyable for a business book - seriously! (...I'm not getting paid). Had a MBA class on this topic, so I purchased this to help increase my understanding. Worth every penny.
