Publisher's summary

Children are not supposed to rescue their parents, life is supposed to be the other way around. And rescues aren't supposed to be needed on the trip out to the new colony planet Valhalla. Slow, yes. Boring, yes. Dangerous? No, the trip is not supposed to be dangerous, never has been.

When thieves attack the transport ship to steal an ancient alien artifact, and young Kaylee and her brother, Manny, are cut off from their parents, they have to stop the thieves from getting what they want, because once the thieves have the artifact, they're not leaving any witnesses.

Not my favorite

I have read interesting books written to the youth and enjoyed them. This book dumbed-down the story that it may have been for eight year old children, except for the violence.

Story was ok, if it had been a little more mature!

It’s been five years, where’s Book 2

The story and narration were good but it’s been five years (2017 to 2022) so where is Book 2? It would be nice to know the continuation of the story.

This is an enchanting and mysterious story, can't wait to read the next story line.

Decent Science Fiction

The story was a little drawn out with not much world building. No history of space travel, focused on a family unit. The best laid plans went completely awry. Yet I want more despite the lack of world building.. MacLeod, the narrator, is one of my favorite narrators. I'll be picking up the next in the series just because of him.

A little predictable but a fun ride nonetheless.

I didn't buy this book for a long time since it's shorter than most and obviously written as a young adult novel, but there was no need to worry. Mr. Alanson does not disappoint. If you like any of his other works, you'll enjoy this novel. Also, Mr. Andrews does a great job with all the voices and really brings this story to life. My only major complaints are the predictability and the length. Otherwise, another great novel narrated by a talented vocalist.

Again with the child main characters.

The second series from this author that features children as the main characters. Though this time in a sci fi setting while the last was period Fantasy. Still it's fairly hard sci fi, similar to the way Expeditionary Force is. But still classic Craig Alanson quality of writing.

I wasn't the audience for this book.

Decent story but everything ends happily. Meant more for middleschoolers. Has potential, just not for me.

Probably good for teens

After listening to six Expeditionary Force books from Craig Alanson, this book seems incredibly simple and childish. I’m sure kids and young teens would love it, but not a book I could get into, especially in light of Alanson’s other works.
