It Felt Like I Became A Friend of Lincoln's

Where does Abraham Lincoln rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of the best audiobooks I have had the pleasure of listening to over the last ten years.

This is an amazing and time tested book by Carl Sandburg. His attention to detail and in depth research is breathtaking. I felt like Lincoln was a close friend and was sad to have the book end.

A Journey Worth Taking

I started this book in Ventura California and took a drive at a slow pace across the United States to St Petersburg Florida enjoying every word of this book.. I will not talk about its high or low points or the way it was read as many other have already done that. I can only suggest that if you want to take two Journeys at one time take a trip across the United States and journey across Abraham's Lincoln's Life by listening to this book.

More than comprehensive

The story is full of fascinating details that helped me understand Lincoln better. Bogs down at times.

Much better appreciation for the man and the issues

I decided to listen to this book after getting through the Lincoln Douglas debates (also through Audible) - which I would HIGHLY recommend as well. I knew the basic highlights of Lincoln’s career (that all American’s learn in elementary school) and I had a general knowledge of the issues at hand through the Lincoln Douglas debates, but this book took my appreciation for the delicate tensions of this age to a whole new level. It is masterfully written by Sandberg and expertly read on this audio recording to really capture the feel, the drama, and the character of the time. Sandberg’s words are beautiful, expertly researched, and contain an unimaginable volume of first hand accounts (through letters, publications, and newspaper accounts). The greatest compliment I can give to Sandberg and his biography of Lincoln is that I now feel I know Lincoln as intimately as a friend. Despite its length, I felt a loss when it ended.
