Publisher's summary

When we rewind history to Abraham's era, we encounter people who concocted false superstitions to explain the unexplainable. Powerful kings claimed to be gods, building massive pyramids in an attempt to achieve immortality. Out of this mass of misunderstandings, this collage of confusion, one man emerged. Why, thousands of years later, are we still discussing the faith of this desert nomad? Chuck Swindoll answers that question and many more in this compelling and insightful biography that will inspire your own faith. Respond well to life’s uncertainties. Chuck Swindoll uses the life of Abraham to outline what it means to live with courageous trust in God. You won’t want to miss this remarkable biography about one of the most discussed men of all time.

Inspiration

The narrator is wonderful. He conveys the message and story with understanding, making it easier to find yourself in the story .
The writer was able to completely engulf me in a story I thought I knew more about. He asks the readers questions to draw them into this true story, "What if..." scenerios are presented in modern terms which I could certainly relate!
I highly recommend this book. .

Two thumbs up

I really enjoyed this book and I also enjoyed the study guide (I ordered that from chuck Swindoll's website.) I was planning on spending a few weeks studying the life of Abraham and it has turned into months. The narrator was great and the book never had a dull moment. It was very easy to understand

I'd give 10 stars if I could

A recommended read!

I have read other books and I have been in several Bible. studies that refer to the story of Abraham but, no one writes a Biblical biography like Charles Swindoll.
I felt like this book was speaking directly to me in some, okay most, places. Chuck's ability to put the timeless truth of Abraham into focus for life today is amazing.

My friend

A wonderful look into the humanity of biblical heroes. Truly showing that belief is an action word. The whole idea of come as you are ,It's just the beginning as you are changed into what God wants and wills you to be and you allow it through love of Him and obedience.

Interesting and Informative

I learned so much about this perfectly faithful man who wasn’t perfectly faithful at all! However I also learned how he slowly, gradually became and obedient follower of God AND His friend!

I was intrigued to learn that, his default fearful reaction, was to lie! It was also amusing to observe that he didn’t learn from his lies immediately! Comforting to know that he was every inch the human being that we are! Also reassuring to know that God has infinite patience with Abraham and therefore will have infinite patience with us too!

God’s promises - His Covenant - was made with Abraham (and us), LOOONG Before Abraham did ANYTHING to earn it... Abraham’s journey towards full obedience to God is a story worth hearing.

(Although I note that no mention is made of his marriage to Hagar - renamed, later on - once Sarah dies and having a further 6 children! That’s a shame)!

Too much personal interpretation

I was interested in more of an historical account of the life of Abraham. I didn't always agree with the authors philosophy and analogies for how we should interpret and live as a result of these stories. I would have preferred a more robust and academic biography, but I'm not sure that exists. This book did give a good overview.
