Publisher's summary

Our humanity is meant to be powered by the breath of God.

You want to grow more deeply in your faith—to know in your bones the love the father has for you. You want to know that even when life doesn’t seem to be going as it should, God is with you. You need courage for today. Strength and hope for tomorrow. Musician and artist Ron Block desires the same—for you and for himself.

To become who we’re meant to be requires a deeper experience of God himself. Abiding Dependence shares 40 days of meditations—a deep plunge into the beauty and richness of the Gospels. Block takes the listener through contemplations of Jesus as son of God, son of man, tempted son of man, compassionate high priest, man of courage, reconciler, and more. The listener learns to live and breathe in the atmosphere of God’s abiding love.

Christians often try to add flesh-fueled effort to buttress their works and walk with God. Can you relate? This gives rise to all sorts of mistaken ideas about God and our relationship with him. Block helps us live and rest in Jesus. Seeing and knowing his love awakens our trust. Faith lights hope. And we all need a stirring of hope—one that does not disappoint. Block stirs in Christians a hope not just for a future someday but for this day, this hour, this very moment. Join Block on a soul strengthening 40 days of Abiding Dependence!

Modern day classic, beautiful music

This book is a modern day classic. Block’s engagement with the Spirit -filled life is wise, challenging and comforting. The short chapters make it easy to listen in a small open space in the day, and give so much richness to sit with. Block’s music gives depth and context to his writing. And it’s beautiful.

Best devotional ever IMHO

This devotional, Abiding Dependence, is the best one I’ve ever encountered. It’s by Ron Block, who is the banjo player in Alison Krauss’s band Union Station. He wrote almost all my favorite songs of hers.

I bought the Audible book first. He plays music along with his soothing narration. After day six, I bought the e-book too, because I needed to read along with the narration. It’s deep and delicious. I don’t know how else to describe it.
I’m only on day 11 of 40 because I’ve stopped to savor some of the devotions for multiple days.
So far in this book there seems to be not a single wasted word. It feels so divinely crafted and inspired. I just had to share.

Peaceful listening to make you think

I’ve known Ron causally online for over 20 years through George MacDonald groups starting way back with the list serve group.
Here are a collections of meditations and thoughts beautifully accompanied by his musical skills. Agree or disagree with any specific point, they make for interesting thoughtful reading/listening and will help bring peace and joy into your thoughts around God.
You will hear some of his journey and also corrections lovingly presented for some of the pitfalls we all stray into. Well worth your time

A Top Ten of All Time Best Christian Books

Ron Block is teaching me how to walk the Christian walk. He writes with such Christian love, and it is so easy to understand!! I never understood many of the basic Biblical concepts about "abiding" with the Lord and allowing Jesus to live THROUGH us. But this is a time in my life when I'm beginning to really seek God and a relationship with Him. This book is magnificent and is helping me get started with a daily walk with God. The devotionals are so deep and powerful (taken straight from the Bible - so many verses explained!) that it's difficult to fully absorb one 2-page chapter in just one day!! It's almost like reading Oswald Chambers. Seriously - that good. Do not hesitate to get this book!

Ron is also one of the best musicians on the planet, and his peaceful guitar tracks are wonderful!!! (Ron, you really should make a peaceful gospel song instrumental guitar album next.) :) Thank you for writing this book. It's teaching me so much, and I feel like I'm learning it from a loving older brother!
