Publisher's summary

A Year and Six Seconds opens on the winter day Isabel Gillies arrives in Manhattan, two young sons in tow, after her husband has left her; she's moving back in with her parents until she can figure out what to do next. In scene after sweet, hilarious scene, Gillies exposes her attempts to feel strong and lovable and to cross items off a staggering to-do list that includes: break down only in front of best friend, not in front of children; get along with parents in tight quarters; find preschool spot for son mid-school-year in Manhattan; receive one great, romantic kiss. She makes lists, she dates, she cries; she and her whole crowded family get the flu; then, just when Gillies least expects it, she falls in love. A Year and Six Seconds is a buoyant, true romantic comedy with a universal human undercurrent reminding us that we can all struggle and stumble, but somehow come out just fine on the other side.

Critic reviews

"Gillies's discussion of the steps she took to remedy the overly emotional aspects of her personality will engage readers beyond those in search of simple happy endings." ( Library Journal)

Disappointing compared to first novel

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was better than listening to nothing but I wasn't as eager to listen as I normally am with a good book.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I hate to say it but it wasn't interesting enough. I chose the book because I loved the author's previous book.

Was A Year and Six Seconds worth the listening time?

I guess if you are in the mood for a descriptive story of a women's finding love after divorce.

Any additional comments?

I LOVED "Happens Every Day" by Isabelle Gillies. Listen to that instead.

Very good story.

Liked this book! I listened to her first book as well; I thought that one was better.

I was so excited to go to listen to this but I am disappointed

I have just listened to cozy and then to the book about her divorce happens every day. I loved listening to her voice reading her story. I was so looking forward to hearing it once again in the resolution of getting through the divorce and then finding happiness but to my great disappointed there was a woman that sounded nothing like her was very theatrical and older. She didn’t sound like she was reading a memoir at all. I particularly love books narrated by the author , especially memoirs. To my it should be a no brainer that they read their story. And she had read the first and last so why not the sequel . I too have gone through a horrific divorce and was just loving the connection I felt with her and listening to her first book and was very hard but good . I was hoping to get the uplifting second half.

I’m my opinion , she should record this book and get the other one off the site .

Not author reading this one!? Beyond disappointed

I ordered this book thinking the author was reading her own story as in her first book - which I loved and loved her reading it especially. WHY would she have someone else read this??? Plus an author that sounds well past middle age is reading it. Does not work. Made this whole thing boring. Couldn’t get past opening chapters.
This is the first time I’ll be asking for an Audible refund after many years as a subscriber.
