This book is a little weird

I like this series, but it's definitely a little weird.
Michelle seems very powerful at times, and oddly weak at other times. She runs out of energy very quickly. Her friends are weird too. A were-peahen? An octopus-shifter? A 2,000 year old elven boyfriend? A dinosaur golem? Actually, Rexy is the best part of book two. The worst is Tiffany, equal parts useless and demanding. I really liked the first book, and I liked this one enough that I will read the third book.

Great Story, Interesting Characters!

Overall, A Witch's Path was a great story, that moves at a steady pace. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Elron, his story definitely pulls on your heart strings.

Jeff Hays did a fantastic job narrating this story! I was very impressed with wide range of voices he could project. I especially loved the Gargoyles voice. In addition to the multiple voices, he did an amazing job with the different emotions throughout the story! His narration really enhanced the story.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyable Listen

This is the first book in the series that I listened to and it was very enjoyable. The connection between the characters and the storyline. I will definitely be listening to the previous book in order to get the full story.
The story deals with a supernatural world and it makes you love it. Michelle, a witch, helps stop crime and looks out for magical things. And it also brings in romance. What more could you ask for.

Crafty world with a witch making her way in life

Would you listen to A Witch's Path again? Why?

Yes. I've enjoyed the vast world and story present, but the many characters that step on to the pages are given a voice of their own and Jeff is amazing at bringing them to life. The personality and voice of each character is a pleasure to hear.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Witch's Path?

There are a few... Her and Elron out together. When she meets her "pet" a T-rex. And when Elron comes to her rescue, but what they learn afterward too.

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

Jeff is talented with voices. (Which I found out are all him! Not synthesized.) All the different voices bring the story to life and makes it easy and fun to listen to. Jeff adds the emotion of delay in speaking words or that infliction can add, all what we do not get when reading. We hear the concern and worry in voice to go with the words on the page.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really enjoyed a moment with Michelle and Elron in which Elron points out how Michelle is surrounded with strong allies who will help her and help keep her safe. This was so true and a realization moment. She's a great character that everyone enjoys.

Any additional comments?

Michelle is an amazingly organized woman. It sounds like a lot is happening, which it is, but it's spread out through a few days and Michelle is great at setting things up around the emergency moments. I love that Michelle always keeps a level head and keeps moving forward. With this personality, all the crazy happening around her doesn't feel like it's crazy. She is also responsible and respects the proper ways. Michelle does her best to do as she's to do within the law. She then comes to a point that she can't wait any longer and has to act, but she knows very well what the consequences are and will accept them for her friends life.

I've enjoyed the calming ways of Michelle as she fights the evils and dangers of this world. It's a vast world of all sorts of beings and creatures and I look forward to listening to many more stories of Michelle and her adventures.

Better than the first

I don't want to spoil any of the plot that made this story so engaging for me. So I'll leave with saying that it carried fantastically well from the first book and really improved overall.

What I'll comment more on is Jeff Hay's narration. The quality of this recording somehow felt improved. But without changing the feel he brought to the first book. Two major moments of the narration that stood out to me are how it really sounds like someone is talking through a phone during scenes where that is exactly how they should sound. The second is how chills literally ran down from my ears when he first narrated the gargoyle. If I ever get the chance I'll have to ask how many voices he tried until getting the perfect one.

So Good

Any additional comments?

Since I haven't listened to the first book, I didn't know what to expect. I took a leap of faith because Jeff was narrating. I'm glad I did. This book was so good. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Another wonderful new author I have found!

I received this book for free from the author/narrator for an honest and unbiased review.

I must add that I have also found a new favorite narrator as well. Jeff can read just about anything and I would love it. I am definitely going back to read book one and then read book 3 after that. And I might re listen to book 2 again. There's not a lot of back story but enough to help me understand what I missed in book one. I am so excited to have found this book through audioboom and to be gifted for an honest review. Thank you so much.
Worth a credit - Heck YES!!!

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

A fun listen

What made the experience of listening to A Witch's Path the most enjoyable?

I enjoy the main character and it's fun to carry on with the paranormal creatures.

What did you like best about this story?

Ilike Michelles sassiness.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hays’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I purchased the first book in this series so I would be up to speed when I started this one. That was my first experience listening to Jeff's narration. I listened to the audio sample and liked the narration and went from there. When I saw a males name as the narrator I thought maybe there was more than one option and I picked a different version to sample. I mean, the sample I listened to was clearly a chics voice... I started the book and was pleasantly pleased to find out it really was a male narrator and he performed Michelles voice really really good! The masculine characters were also clearly masculine. I am rather particular about listening to stories that have female characters performed by females. I don't like to hear a story with a female lead character ruined with a deep male voice that goes all high pitched as if women really sound like that and overuse inflection when we talk. This is probably the first time (and I have over 500 audiobooks) that I have enjoyed a female character narrated by a man. He's awesome.

Realistic approach to fantasy world

Would you try another book from N. E. Conneely and/or Jeff Hays?

Yes, the story was interesting, but to short. The main character is more of a girl next door than a kick-a-bad guy-in-the.. but she does not hide away from trouble. At first I was disappointed, but then I could relate to her better, and found it refreshing for a fantasy story.

If you’ve listened to books by N. E. Conneely before, how does this one compare?

This was my first book by N.E.Conneely. I enjoyed her realistic approach on a fantasy world, it feels real. I enjoy it when the main character respond and react to situations the same way I would. I don't like it when you think: 'that is not a natural responds' or ' relay, you did not see it coming?' The only situation I could not understand, was her parents decision to keep her in the dark. Why? Maybe I should listen to the first book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I thought the male voice was much better than the female voice. She sounded dreamy and disinterested in life,'without color". But not so bad that I will not listen to the next book. The male voice had depth and feeling. The variation between the voices made it better than just the female voice would have been .

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, its more a TV series, because it felt like part of a longer story. Not complete.

Any additional comments?

I will like to listen to more of this series. It left to meany unanswered questions. I understand there will be a followup book, but it felt like a clip out off a bigger story.

Double, double toil and trouble.

Would you listen to A Witch's Path again? Why?

Yes, a most definite yes. Reason Number One : the narration by Jeff Hays. More to follow about Mr. Hays' performance. Frankly, fantasy isn't at the top of my list of favorite reading or listening genres. This was entertaining enough as written and performed to bump these kind of books up a peg or two though!

What did you like best about this story?

If a book about witches, trolls, and elves can be considered down to earth believable, this is that book series. An assistant to the police in all things magic! hah! Excellent.

What does Jeff Hays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm not sure if there is a better narrator than Jeff Hays. He has wide range in accents, in convincingly giving voice to a wide range of ages, male, female, human, Gargoyles, and sundry other beasties with a range of feeling that runs the gambit! - excitement, sadness, anger ,exuberance et al. If you're not on the bandwagon of fans you soon will be!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes for the reasons mentioned. Heck, I'm going to seek out others in this series. lol
