Story
Guthrie, Oklahoma, 1912. Priscilla Cochran intends to prove to the world she is a grown-up woman, able to take care of herself. She accepts a job as a teacher in Dogtown, Colorado, where the man who hired her thinks she is a woman of "mature years". Mitch Beaumont is tired of young women who come to Dogtown and leave in tears because it is not a built-up city with entertainment a young woman would want. He has finally secured a teacher for the town who has assured him she is a middle-aged spinster and will be able to last through the hard winters.

Publisher's Summary
Guthrie, Oklahoma, 1906 - History teacher Ellie Henderson, has been a thorn in high school Principal Max Colbert's side ever since he took over three months ago. When she's not flying by his office, late for her class, with books and papers jumbled in her arms, she's attending suffragettes meetings against his orders.
Because of her family connections, Max can't fire her, but he can certainly find someone to marry her and keep her busy in the kitchen - and far away from his school. Max soon finds that what seemed like a good idea can turn into disaster when Miss Ellie Henderson is involved. The woman is a master at getting into trouble.
With the Christmas season in full swing, he has many opportunities to introduce her to prospective husbands. However, he gets the uncomfortable feeling that no one is worthy of the minx....

Surprised
I enjoyed some of this book; however I was surprised at the descriptive sex scene towards the end of the book. In my opinion, it didn't fit with the rest of the story. Now that I know, I can avoid this author in the future, and anyone reading this review will know also.

A funny, gentle, romantic story set at Christmas
This is a feel good story about a spirited woman and a stuffy guy who finally realise they are made for each other. Okay, it has been done before in romantic fiction, but hey, what hasn't? This story is so skilfully written that you get caught up in the characters lives very quickly and want to know what happens to them. She is a very likeable, flawed human being and he is a pompous nit-wit; at least in the beginning. I like the way the writer gradually draws the two of them together. The seduction scene is beautifully written and full of emotion - not many writers can do that well, so all credit to Callie's gift for writing. It was nice for it not to be an icky anatomy lesson.
This is a curl up by the fire, relaxing read, perfect for when you want some 'me' time. Lara Wells narrates it so well that I almost forgot she was speaking and saw it all unfold in my head.
I have just started reviewing and have decided to only review what I really like. I don't like trashing someone's pride and joy so you will see high star ratings from me since. iIt is all matter of taste anyway. The exception being something that makes me angry and /or looks carelessly written
