Publisher's Summary

When Mac Faraday decides to do something, there's no stopping him...even murder!

Not wanting to wait until their big day to start their life of wedded bliss, Mac Faraday and his lady love, Archie Monday, decide to elope to the little church where his ancestors had all married - along the tranquil shore of Deep Creek Lake. However, before they can say "I do", the sanctuary erupts into chaos when Gnarly finds a dead body in the church office.

As they dive into the investigation, Mac and his team discover more questions than answers. What kind of person walks into a church and shoots a man for no apparent reason? How do you solve the murder of a man who has no enemies in the world? Which of the seemingly kind-hearted church members is really a cold-blooded killer?

Then, there is the all-important question, how long do Mac Faraday and his lady love have to wait to get married?

Plus, a special bonus feature: "The Gnarly Rehabilitation Program (A Gnarly Mystery Short)". Bert and Ernie learn the hard way that crime does not pay when they dog-nap Gnarly.

Death at the Church

Pretty good story. I started with book 8 and i feel I would have a better understanding of the characters if i had started from the beginning but still good story. Narration was good. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

justice and closure

The two murders were justified in my eyes. Both villains thought they were above the law and used brute force or worse to get what they wanted. The villains got sweet karma. This was very interesting and kept me guessing. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Very enjoyable series

This is the second book written by Laura Carr that I listen to and enjoyed it very much. Great mystery, mixed with love, suspense and laugh. I appreciate the fact that there is no filthy language. Well written books don’t need it! Thank you so much, Laura!

CJ McAllister, as usual, surpassed my expectations with his outstanding narration! Can’t wait to listen to another book that he narrates!

I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!

Great series!! Very enjoyable

Any additional comments?

4.5 stars
I really enjoy this series. Great stories with great narration. This book just like the rest of the series is definitely worth your time and credit. Even though this is the 8th book in the series, it's my 4th in the series overall. Even though I have listened to them out of order that hasn't effected my enjoyment of any of the stories. This story is no different it's just as well written, interesting, intriguing and entertaining as the rest of the books in the series. The story pulls you in immediately and holds your attention from start to finish.

Once again Mac Faraday and the rest of the group are faced with another murder and the mystery surrounding it. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems when Mac and his team are involved. There is more going on in this book than just one murder mystery. With plenty of suspense and action along with several surprising twists it will keep you guessing.

Even with a large cast of characters they are all great. They are all likable, well rounded, easy to relate to and feel like old friends at this point in the series. Each new book is like visiting with old friends. Gnarly, he's a character like no other.

Logan McAllister does a great job with the narration. He has one of those voices you can listen to for hours on end and never get tired of. You know when he's narrating a story you are in for a treat. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Great character voices. Both Male and Female. Perfect tone and delivery of the humor. He brings the characters, their emotions and the story to life through his narration. Very enjoyable.

Love this series!

This continues to be one of my favorite series to listen to! I love the characters and the humor. This story was excellent and I wasn't expecting the twists this mystery took. The narrator is excellent as always and has been the same through the series, making the character voices easily recognizable from book to book. very good!!

I loved this book with its twists and turns, and how well it was written. This author uses all of the senses in her story telling and doesn't give away the plot twists too soon. There is tension at some level throughout. Highly recommend. Fabulous read"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

Fishing for Clues

You can't fool me. If there is a "#8" in the title this might not be the first book in the series. But it was the first "Mac Faraday" for me, and I plunged right into this humor-laden tale. Alright, the beginning is anything BUT funny--an abused wife and child are making their escape when suddenly a shot (or two) rang out. But that's not the killing that interrupts the wedding.

Disclaimer: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review." The description intrigued, the narration was smooth with distinctive vocal characterization, and the story captivated and satisfied.

Got to love a cheeky dog

Wow, this is the first book by this author that I have listened or read but it won't be my last, in fact I was downloading the next book before I finished this. I just loved it. I must admit I wasn't really sure going by the picture cover and the blurb whether it was going to be to preaching or if it was my sort of thing but wanted to try a different author. So glad I did and it had me questioning why was it just sat in my library for so long? I really liked the fact that there was two investigations tied up in one case and thought the author weaved the stories together nicely. But what really got me getting the next book was the characters, especially Gnarly the dog. I really enjoy animals in stories but think Gnarly and his antics put him up there with some of the best. He and his handler Mac added some light entertainment and had me chuckling away. Over all a great mystery, wonderful characters and a story you could listen to again.
Mac Faraday knows everybody wants the big expensive wedding his soon to be wife deserves but he is fed up with playing house and just wants to call her his wife. So they decide to sneak off during a lunch break with Gnarly as the best man and get the job done. The problem is Gnarly discovers a man in the church with gun shot wounds. The man does in hospital and the wedding becomes a murder investigation. He was counting the church donations but as no money is missing it seems unlikely that was the motive, then again he was beloved by all who knew him? So who killed him and why? The church cleaning lady is hiding something, an ex church member has a grudge against the church, a council member wants the church land for development but when three people come in to confess to the murder Mac and the team must work out who they are trying to protect and who the real killer is.
I liked the narrator, he seemed like he had a gruff voice but as I got to know the characters and into the story he grew on me and I enjoyed his delivery.

... compared to the tongue of a gossip.

Any additional comments?

Mac Faraday and his fiancé, Archie, are tired of waiting for their big wedding day, still six months in the future so decide on a secret ceremony in a little nearby church. Taking only Gnarly, the great lumbering 'police' dog with them, their hopes of a quiet marriage are interrupted by the discovery of a body in the church. And the following investigations are unexpected and far from simple ...

This very humerous murder mystery by Lauren Carr once again revisits characters met in earlier books (although none need to have been previously read to fully enjoy this story). The people are well drawn to become fully three dimensional, the conversations are realistic, situations often funny and even the several dogs have real character. The plot itself, twisting and ingeneous, is almost secondary to meeting the protagonists, but still good. And as usual, narrator, C.J.MacCallister does an excellent job interpreting them all and giving each a distinctive and individual voice (although Carmine's Italian accent has to be a bit suspect) as well as flawlessly delivering the text in his deep and pleasant reading.

I very much enjoy these light-hearted stories and look forward to hearing another very soon. My only complaint? My copy seems to be missing the advertised bonus short about the big, boisterous dog, 'The Gnarly Rehabilitation Program'.
