No one is above the law. This belief is as American as freedom of speech and turkey on Thanksgiving - held sacred by Democrats and Republicans alike. But as celebrated Supreme Court lawyer and former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal argues in Impeach, if President Trump is not held accountable for repeatedly asking foreign powers to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, this could very well mark the end of our democracy. In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family. All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance they could not explain - until now.

He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

The 2016 election was a watershed for the United States. But, as Tim Alberta explains in American Carnage, to understand Trump’s victory is to view him not as the creator of this era of polarization and bruising partisanship, but rather as its most manifest consequence. American Carnage is the story of a president’s rise based on a country’s evolution and a party’s collapse. As George W. Bush left office with record-low approval ratings and Barack Obama led a Democratic takeover of Washington, Republicans faced a moment of reckoning.

In the first book to consider these three presidents alone (Johnson, Nixon, and Clinton), and the one thing they have in common, Jeffrey Engel, Jon Meacham, Timothy Naftali, and Peter Baker explain that the basis and process of impeachment is more political than it is a legal verdict. The Constitution states that the president, "shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors," leaving room for historical precedent and the temperament of the time to weigh heavily on each case.

Nothing new here
same same , anyone who follows Trump's ridiculous rise to power understands the repetitive nature of this book. Oh and it hasn't been proofed very well. NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation not American, but for someone working within the Trump WH it's hardly surprising they think the world revolves around the U.S. Don't buy this unless you want to use it to put you to sleep.

Interesting. Frustrating. Damning.
There was no way around it. I had to read this book out of pure, morbid curiosity.
Anyone who has been following the Trump presidency will likely be familiar with most of the anecdotes presented here, there are really no surprises and the book almost certainly feels as though it has been watered down in an effort to preserve anonymity for the author.
This book manages to confirm all of our suspicions about Trump, as well as the accuracy of the reporting of Trump's mindset and petulant behaviour.
On one hand it is genuinely interesting to read the account of somebody on the inside, but on the other hand I found this an incredibly frustrating read. The fact that somebody could be on the inside and willing to admit how unsuitable and dangerous the president is without having the conviction to speak publicly. Ultimately I don't see how this book really helps matters. It is difficult to take a person seriously who is unwilling to speak openly.
I am conflicted about this book, I wanted to read it and am glad I have, but I was rather angry and frustrated by the accounts within it for most of the book.
My money is on Mike Pence being the author for what it is worth. Hopefully time will tell.

Great book. Everyone should have a listen and balance it with what others have written and what you see day to day.
Interesting debate about the state of American society.
I don’t agree with the comment that Donald J Trump is a reflection of America today. Based on the fact if someone lies continuously purely to dupe the electorate then that is not American. A compulsive liar likes to create smoke all the time to confuse and make people give up. Americans should not give up

I really enjoyed listening to this. As a survivor of narcissistic abuse I find this guy intriguing. I’m far enough removed that I can objectively understand behaviours that mirror what I was too close to see in my situation. The incoherent circular logic, the flying monkey enablers... so much of what this author observed resonates as truth. And as a side note, for those that appreciate the bible, read 2Tim 3:1-6. Point for point I think you’ll find it very interesting.
The reading is done well... too bad they couldn’t get Stephen Colbert on this tho.

A Definitive Synopsis of the Idiot Boy.
The first question I asked myself was, who is Anonymous. If you study the mannerisms, The complex history of his discussion, his intellect level and his Christian beliefs and understanding. That this person was in Trump's circle from the start and survives till today. One can only think "Mike Pence". Am I right or do you have another person.
A Warning, by Anonymous, is a must-listen for anyone who has an interest in the US political situation. It is almost nine hours of oration describing an extremely flawed person, I have come to call Idiot Boy. A challenged, sad person who suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder with a massive dose of delusions of grandeur. Who in my opinion is controlled by Platov (Putin)?
I found A Warning valuable in understanding that Trump is a critically damaged individual who by Grif, gained the most powerful job on earth.
A Warning is exactly that, A warning of what may happen if the USA does not wake up. Being a student of 1930's Weimar Republic, this book outlines many of the same behaviours that brought Hitler to power. an event the world vowed would never happen again and here we are repeating history

An urgent read for all sides of the political isle leading into 2020
In response to anonymous
It is easy to want to spend a lot of time attempting to determine who could be the anonymous author, I will make my estimation at the end. This narrative is in one way very useful for a target audience and also to reaffirm other second or third hand accounts of the chaos of a dysfunctional White House, and the inept incredibly broken human being at the helm.
I have been incredibly curious about the nature and inner workings of such a man, known as the 45th POTUS Donald Trump.
How a man can act and behave in such a manner and still be deemed worthy to be the most powerful human being on Earth. I sometimes wonder what is more frightening, his blatant narcissism or his incapacity to form coherent thought and maintain any trait of human decency outside the realm of what is most advantageous for him and his short or long term goals. It really is quite frightening to see such individuals with real power. His ascendency to the office is a true demonstration of the era we find ourselves in. Starting with the electoral college designed to prevent such potential dictators from ever assuming power of any real kind. I like many assumed and had hoped that campaign Trump was just a persona a somewhat means to an ends to appeal to low information voters, those demoralised and often stepped on by the era of national and global corporatism. Elegantly expressed in Davos by the Dutch historian Roger Bregman when he said to a host of extremely wealthy businessman that the real problem is that they don’t want to be taxed. And outlined the hypocrisy of this elite cohort in discussing climate change whilst all arriving via their own private jets. We have seen a globalised world see the average citizen as nothing but contributors to statistics of GDP and as consumers. But the charade never really let up, much to many’s dismay.
The book authored by a supposed concerned senior official. It is easy to believe that it is someone still inside the administration. Someone who articulates a knowledge of history not just of significant events and comparable once great nations now left to the ashes of stories and history pages a modern humanity seems disassociated from. Someone who has some adherence to biblical references and morality. This person also states they intend to come forward as the source of the book sometime in the future, whether that is before the end of Trump’s first term or during the election period. One must believe this may be political suicide but also would show more discipline and adherence to the rule of law and the foundations of the republic from which America in it’s independence from the british was founded upon.
He or she gives a scathing review of not just the day to day running under such a dysfunctional and emotionally driven man but also insights into what it is like to work under them. It is surprising that things haven’t unraveled worse than what they have. Credit to the aids and those determined to keep this crazy train on tracks. At times the author defends Trump but only in reinforcing that they do not believe Donald is a racist. Of course the viewers of this president and the history that comes after him will determine that for themselves. The accounts seem credible as we haven’t heard anything to the contrary.
One of the most startling realisations of the book, comes from the assessment that if Trump were to win a second term he would be more embolden to dismantle necessary institutions, to break international laws, enrich himself and also defy both chambers of congress in all ways possible it would be hard to impeach him twice. It makes sense as someone who believes whatever is good for him is good for America. Whilst also likely tanking the US and global economy and defying both houses of congress; the only check and balance against a Mad King or Queen and will incentivise those that come after him to do even worse. We are lucky this POTUS is more or less illiterate, undisciplined and easily flattered and dictated to by anyone who knows how to shower him with all the right platitudes.
The Republican Party as it was will cease to exist. It will be the party of Trump for decades to come. The state of our ecological climate and international treaties that kept order in the world will disintegrate. And finally the US will finish it’s decline effectively before 2030. These are my predictions of course as no one has a crystal ball into such things but all trends face this way with the winds at their sales. A global recession within the next 2 years will occur, disrupted trade, inflated stock bubbles, stagnant wages and the ravages of an unpredictable climate and of course the technological disruption brought of by AI. We need leaders with proper temperament, those that can set aside their personal interests for the greater good, and this book expresses that is just not something trump is capable of.
The author builds on the psychoanalysis of the very urgent book by Justin. A Frank “Trump on the couch: Inside the mind of the President” who explores the extreme damage done to a young DJT by an emotionally distant mother and authoritarian father. Impacted by the lack of boundaries and ideas of grandeur subconsciously expressed by his father, pushed onto his late Brother Fred Jnr who never lived up the expectations of Donald’s father Fred.
My point is this man has many serious emotional and psychological deficits due mostly to his upbringing and parents. Stating that Donald once stated he still has the same mindset as he had when he was 5 years old only 6-7 years ago, in his view of the world, competition and victimhood often expressed in this book.
The author really illuminates the urgent need to reclaim the republic for unity, and the realistic continuation of the American experiment.
They outline why they haven’t acted on article 25 to remove trump and also firmly believes that the ballot is the only true way this man could be removed. He or she is critical of themselves but also trumps enablers especially the republicans in the senate and congress. Power position before country seems to be the overarching critique here;
This book truly is a warning especially to the complacent and enablers of such a man at the helm of the the worlds largest military. What would likely come should a second term be permitted. We are all of these things. We accept him as he is, as normal. This is not Normal but neither are these times. As we become more polarised and care more about our side winning and owning the libs or projecting into echo chambers our own confirmation bias. When did our species known for being wise “Homo-sapien” Meaning wise man become so juvenile and delinquent and so easily manipulated? While the greedy and in this case the stupid that dismantle us.
I appreciate the authors moral clarity, his or hers adherence to common humanity, not often expressed by the republicans. The veil of anonymity can do wonders to releasing someone’s conscience.
If this is VP pence, if that was where your mind was going, I find it hard to believe but also likely. We don’t really know pence outside of his religious views and cowardly kneeling to a deplorable POTUS, from the outside a sycophant. But he is often the silent soul on the sidelines. There is one passage in the book where the author makes a comment about “VP Pence’s rousing speech” which grabbed me. The author has stated he or she had been careful not to give their identity away. I also recall a footage of VP Pence going down to the southern border and observing men in cages. To me his face looked in deep turmoil. The author of this book expresses and understand’s the right of asylum seekers to flee persecution. And Pence’s religion as deep as it is and institutionalism to America makes him a likely candidate for author. The country was founded on honourable ideals even though founded by mostly slave owners still means something to some and pence for all his time in the shadows is possibly the one man constant enough in this shamble to be the faceless mirror. Still saw a vision for America not corrupted to what it is today. The author is definitely a republican stating he was no fan of Hillary Clinton. It will be interesting to see who it is. But it is most honourable to have this book about the underlining message which is Trump is so much worse than people think. And we get what we allow and enable. I implore all American’s to read this book it is imperative before November 2020 that we all do.
