What a lovely story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I highly recommend this book to those who have loved the first three books in the Virgin River series. Whilst they are woven into the story, this book digresses from the main characters introduced across the first books in the series and focuses on the trials and growing relationship of Ian and Marcie. The story is beautifully and realistically staged and as always, Therese Plummer's narration is magnificent.

What other book might you compare A Virgin River Christmas to and why?

This book compares favorably to all the other books in the Virgin River series.

Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Therese Plummer makes you believe in the characters she portrays. My father, whom I introduced to the series, believed the characters were in fact voiced by different actors. Therese is, by far, the best voice actor I have heard and this performance is at least equal to her best.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

All Virgin River books make me laugh at various points throughout the stories, and this book is no different. The comments and reactions of various characters are both believable and elicit emotion from the listener.

Any additional comments?

Fabulous. Addictive 5 star listen which takes me from my own hectic and sometimes troubling life to a place where characters know how to treat each other with respect, love and understanding. Highly recommended.

Chicken soup for my ears...

Being a girl from the Caribbean I found this book fascinating! Why? The descriptions of the rugged lifestyle of the mountains which was new for me. Living with no electricity nor running water, having to walk outside the house through several feet of snow to go to the outhouse (bathroom?) and then having to face wild animals or freeze to death. I though that was really interesting and made me appreciate the 80 degree temperature I have all year round.

The romance is just what you come to expect from Robyn Carr, amazing, perfect, wonderful. Marcie is a young widow that goes to Virgin River looking for Ian Buchanan. Ian and her husband were in the Army together and Ian saved her husband in Fallujah. Marcie's husband was severely injured and never recovered from them but Marcie is very grateful that she got three more years to see her husband and to say goodbye. Ian apparently suffered some serious post traumatic stress and went to live alone in the mountains.

Marcie just wanted to say Thank You to Ian and give him some baseball cards that her husband left. And that visit turned into a journey for both main characters that turned into a beautiful love story. This book can be read as a stand alone book but try to listen to the series in order because it is definitely worth it. Right now I'm on book 10 of this series and let me tell you that later on you will listen to much more about Marcie and Ian's life together.

Narration: PERFECT. Therese Plummer is the best narrator EVER. The combination of a Robyn Carr story with narration by Therese Plummer is like Chicken Soup for my ears, my mind and my heart. She even sings (Ian sings) at the end of the book and it's a very powerful scene. The first one that has actually made me cry in the whole series. If you are reading this review, then you must get it.

You can skip this one

The only reason I listened to this one is because I finished all of the other Virgin River novels and now I'm waiting for the Netflix series and hopefully another novel in the series. The main character Marcie just rubbed me the wrong way. Her family treats her like a teenager and she acts like a teenager. I mean seriously. She is a married woman who became a widow and her sister can't seem to let her go on a trip alone without freaking out. Why did she have to explain to anyone where she was going and why? Then her calling home crying to another $100 dollars to finish her search for Ian. Really? If you're an adult and on an adventure that should be financed by you not your family. Her wanting to see Ian to satisfy her curiosity and not taking into account that there are some nightmare's people do not want to relive. He saved her husband but that didn't seem to be enough for her. Of course there was going to be an HEA this is Virgin River after all but I wish the heroine was more of a grown-up and a lot less thoughtless of others. My rating: Skip it, it doesn't add to the overall Virgin River series and Marcie and Ian are only mentioned in passing in one or two of the rest of the novels. Unless they come up in the novels after novel 20 you won't need to know who they are.

Enjoyable

I have enjoyed every book in the series. For me, each story took my interest from the beginning and kept it until the end. It's nice to come home after work and look forward to plugging in the iPod and escaping to Virgin River.

Ending

This was a great story, just wish it would have ended by giving us a little bit more. I feel like I was left hanging

Just Ok

It's not bad, but it's also not really good. The story premise is nice, but it meanders so badly that by chapter 7, I wound up just going to the last chapter to get it over with. I did care enough to see how it ended, but I couldn't deal with getting there past chapter 7. The story literally seemed frozen.

The characters are likeable

Would you try another book from Robyn Carr and/or Therese Plummer?

This series is certainly fluff -- just enjoyable romance and a location that intrigues. You aren't going to learn anything when reading these books. But you may find yourself loving the people even if you want to dislike the book. I see that Ms. Carr's fans are very loyal and tend to rate her books much higher than I do. I understand their devotion because I have enjoyed the books I have read and tend to finish them in quick order. However, to me 5 stars means perfection -- literary perfection with characters you love, characters you hate, stories that enthrall, lessons that learn, twists and turns. These books provide me with much I enjoy but I don't learn from them and I am never surprised by them. The stories are predictable and the ending is never a twist I didn't see coming.

If you are looking for an escape into a simple locale with people you like then these books might fit the bill.

I will read more of her books, especially if there are sequels to Sunrise Point.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There are no surprises in the endings of her books.
